Q: My horse likes the cubes, are there any ingredients that would make me not allow this at a very low rate such as a couple of stolen cubes a day? I feed the horse a couple in treat form maybe 2 to 5 cubes. Your thoughts?

2 Answers
  • A: I've fed the Purina Cattle Cubes to my horses for treats for years. They love them and get as much as a pound a day apiece if the grandkids are here! I did have an elderly horse choke on them when he was allowed to eat from the bucket and didn't chew before swallowing. Certainly this wasn't the fault of the cubes, just a warning not to free feed to an old glutton.

Q: Do you know of anyone that makes “dairy feed” like made in the 60’s?  No molasses, no corn or soy?

1 Answer
  • A: Thanks for choosing Purina. You will want to contact an independent Purina dealer to see if they have any option like this available for dairy cattle.

Q: Could this be fed to pet steer as a treat a few cubes a day? Does it have to be soaked? Will they choke on this?

1 Answer
  • A: Thanks for your question. Yes, this may be fed as a treat form. It does not require soaking before being fed. If you have an animal that has a history of choke, then you may add water, but it is not something that we suggest unless deemed necessary.

Q: Is this product rumen degradable, or broken down in the rumen to help cow digest low quality forage, and allow her to eat more of it? Or is there another product supplement I should get. From DocTalk, 12/7/15 Feeding Cows in the Winter.

1 Answer
  • A: Thanks for your inquiry. It is rumen degradable. When fed at 2-4 pounds it will feed rumen microbes allowing them to digest more forage. If the rumen microbes are digesting more forage, then the cow will eat more hay. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Our cattle go bonkers for these range cubes!

We were hesitant since we have Boogee cattle🤣 They will only eat cracked corn not whole and they won’t eat grass hay, it has to be the “horse” hay🤣 So, we weren’t sure they would eat or like the cubes! OMG…..they started head butting one another to get the cubes!!! 🤣🤣 On these cold winter days here in Indiana, they are a great energy resource!

Yes, I recommend this product.
