Q&As

1 - 10 of 506 Questions

Q: Will it kill chicks on brooder setting if they fall asleep right under it?

1 Answer
  • A: No, it will not kill them. The Producer's Pride Chicken Coop Brooder and Heater uses radiant heat and is designed to act like a mother hen. It mimics natural brooding by keeping the under-panel area warm enough to comfort them when they sleep directly beneath it, without overheating

Q: I have a small cage and it is set on heater. Will it be to hot in the cage? Temps are going down in 30s (Fahrenheit)

1 Answer
  • A: Whether it will be "too hot" depends entirely on which gear setting you use and the age of your birds. The Producer's Pride Brooder and Coop Heater is a dual-function radiant heater with two distinct power settings: Brooder Mode (Gear I - 40W): Reaches approximately which is designed for young chicks. Heater Mode (Gear II - 200W): Reaches much higher temperatures, roughly to intended for warming a larger coop space rather than direct contact

Q: Is this safe to use in a coop with bedding, straw and adult chickens?

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, the Producer's Pride Brooder and Coop Heater is considered safe for coops with bedding and straw because it acts as a radiant heater, not a heat lamp, and maintains a much lower surface temperature, preventing ignition of flammable materials. However, it is designed for localized heat, not heating the whole space, and must be secured to a wall or stand to prevent tipping

Q: is it warmer on 1 or number 2

1 Answer
  • A: Setting 2 (Heater) is warmer than Setting 1 (Brooder). Setting 2 operates at 200W and reaches approximately 167°F, while Setting 1 operates at 40W and reaches approximately 90°F.

Q: I purchased 2 of these heat plates and neither made it a month. Is there a fuse or something that can be changed to get them to work again? Each only went thru a few weeks to raise one batch of chicks each.

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, the most common solution if the unit stops heating is to replace the internal fuse. You should also check for a tripped safety mechanism by unplugging the unit for 15-30 minutes to allow it to cool down completely before plugging it back in.
