Rated 2 out of 5 by from Indoor use only?! I'd had my eye on this heated base for several months and finally bought it only to be disappointed. The packaging states that it is for outdoor use (under cover, protected from the elements) but the sticker on the base clearly states it is only for indoor use. Additionally, another label on the base warns users not to use an extension cord to power the unit. Well, I took it right back for a refund.

does this work in outdoor setting? no get wet- really? it is under the water an animals do not know to keep dry.

Asked by: goat4God
Yes, works outside. The reference to getting wet applies more to submerging in water, which won't happen with this. It's fine to use as intended with a double wall metal poultry fount.

Can I use an extension cord with this? The directions say not to.

Asked by: DZW1
We are required by UL to put this statement on our instructions. While we don't recommend the use of them for both safety reasons and also because they could cause stray voltage or reduce the overall power/wattage output of the deicer, if you absolutely must use one for your application, make sure it's a heavy duty outdoor extension cord (the thicker the better) and we also recommend the use of our Cord Connect water-tight cord lock which will keep the cords from pulling apart as well as keep the connect dry. The Cord Connect is TSC Sku #1042639

does this melt plastic water feeders

Asked by: JimBay
It is designed for metal feeders only. It will likely compromise the integrity of plastic.

Can I use it for ducks? The instructions say not to get it wet and the ducks will spill some water.

Asked by: quack
As long as you put a metal pan on it, should be fine for your ducks. And the bottom is covered so there shouldn't be any issues with wetness. Good luck.
