Disappointing- loss of work to change litter

My husband bought this at a silent auction supporting a rescue organization. I was apprehensive, because it's not something we were considering purchasing at the time. Our cats took too it much better than I expected. It seemed good at first ...
However, the part that lifts becomes caked with dried urine and it's necessary to take it apart and clean it regularly. The crystals do not absorb well and the urine clumps with the dust from the crystals at the bottom. This clump has to be scraped out. I also find the trough where the poops are raked into awkward to clear out. It's very narrow and most scoops don't fit.
Although it minimizes scooping the litter, the trough has to be cleaned at least every two days.
Basically, changing the litter with this system is a much bigger job. It's more work to clean the tray/box, the cover needs to be wiped down and the 'door' has to be taken out and cleaned.
Also when the cats track the crystals out it's like birds of rock salt all over the house.
I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone looking to minimize the work of cleaning the litter box. It's also quite costly.

Not sure what to think:
It Tracks and has fine litter, made my cat choke.
No auto sensor, it flashes but I have to activate it.
No liners came with it or were available. It did not leak but I changed it after a few days jic.
However, the cats are enamored of the bar going across and think it's worth watching. I don't know about Odor. But find it interesting they use "pet safe" when it clearly has fine particles. Love the idea, but I'm not sure it's safe. Same Odor as any box kept clean.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Still a stinky mess

I have 2 cats. My litter box is in an open laundry room. Due to the design and type of litter of this box- the cat pee does not get raked up with the poop- it just mixes in with the crystal litter everytime the rake scoops poop. This box does nothing to control odor. The poop just piles up under the plastic hood- but you still smell it- and you still have to either dump the entire tray of litter (weekly with my 2 cats) or scoop the pile of poop out from under the hood anyway. I did get the reusable plastic tray and the crystal litter does not fully soak up my cats pee. I have to still (at least) bi weekly empty the whole litter tray and scrape cat pee from the bottom of the tray. It just doesn’t cut back on odor or maintenance for me. I’ll be spending about $20 more to get one that rotates and puts the poop AND pee in a separate waste container I just need to empty. This is not low fuss, low maintenance or low odor. Crystal litter is also more expensive. Lots of negatives- no positives for this one unfortunately.
No, I do not recommend this product.
