Heading Into Heating Season #4

The PelPro PP130 was my first and only pellet stove purchase. As a long time wood burner I was extremely skeptical that a pellet stove would be cost effective and reliable. After a great deal of research I decided on the PelPro PP130. I had looked at the high end stoves and just couldn't justify big dollars for an experiment. I made a very wise choice. This stove has performed almost flawlessly throughout the past 3 North Central PA winters. I am heating 1400 sq. ft. of space half of which is vaulted ceiling. We keep the temperature at around 78 degrees, even in single degree outside temperatures, on setting 4 and average consumption is 130 bags a year. This is our sole source of heat. Initially, we had an issue with the rotary dial which PelPro immediately replaced and I replaced the igniter last season (typical wear item). Beyond that we have had zero issues. I shut down the stove each day for approximately 10 minutes, empty the pot, vacuum the ash, and wipe the glass. After every 50-60 bags I do a 1 hour tear down (very easily accomplished) and give the stove a deep cleaning. I fully expect that in this the 4th year I may be replacing a part, but again maybe not. Are there better looking stoves on the market? Absolutely. Are there other stoves that are as reliable, cost effective, easy to maintain, AND allow you, due to the 130lb capacity hopper, to go away for 3 days and not worry about running out of fuel? Probably not. This is a great stove and I don't think you will be disappointed.

I'm only giving them a 1 star because I have too

Got this stove 1 week ago. Set it up and attempted to run it for the first time on Saturday 11/20/21. I attempted 2x and the received the code for "miss Ignition" check everything they told me to check on the PelPro website and noticed that the latch on the door wasn't latched. I attempted to close the door and the part of the handle on the inside snapped right off. I attempted to go to TSC and they told me they couldn't do anything so this morning I called PelPro and they were not accommodating at all and told me it could be up to 2 weeks before I got the part. I purchased this stove to heat half of my house so I could host thanksgiving and now I cant do that. I will be trying everything in my power to return this stove because it has yet to be run and I don't appreciate the PelPro customer service.

Do not buy this.

My family has had this stove for 3 years. We hate it, it is such a poorly designed stove. It starts out noisy, and it only gets noisier. Requires very frequent cleaning. Blower motors degrade/break and cost $100+ per. You wil abolutely regret your purchase. Save up for a used Harman or go with another heating method.

No, I do not recommend this product.

unhappy

My first pellet stove was installed and used for 20 years and was easy to use and low maintenance. Adjustments were easily lowered to low heat and to high heat. I upgraded to a pel Pro 130 is very high maintenance cleaning is a daily chore and very touchy to turn on and can't be regulated. I dislike it and its look.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Junk

Complete Junk Quite possibly the single biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. Purchased brand new in Dec of 2025. Got it home and it worked the first 3 nights and then stopped working. Contacted support and they gave me a test procedure to determine what was wrong. Determined it was the head unit. They sent me a new one. Should have been the first red flag when they didn't ask me to send back the failed unit for analysis. This tells me it is so common of a failure that they just send them out for free without checking whenever they fail. This should have been the sign to just return it but when it worked the heat cranked so I decided to fix and keep it. I got the replacement part about a week and a half later. So a week and a half not being able to use my BRAND NEW stove in December and the part comes in and I replace it and it doesn't solve the problem. I contact them again and they send me a new potentiometer, again not asking for the failed part back for analysis. I replace it a it finally works....for about 2 weeks. I rerun all the testing and everything seems to be in working order but it still wont feed. The reason is that the auger motor has managed to unplug itself. Yes you read that correctly. When the auger jams the motor spins and unplugs itself. Anyone that doesn't believe me I can send you a video of this happening. It happened more than once so it wasn't just a one time fluke this nor accidently unplugged it while testing it. I have owned it since mid December and the auger jams about twice a week and when it does jam you have to unload the 130 pounds of pellets to take the auger cover off and clear the jam and then plug it back in. Then refill it and restart it. The problem here other than having to empty 130 pounds of pellets by hand is that when you plug the machine in after clearing the jam it immediately goes into shut down mode. This can take anywhere from 1 min to 1 hour to completely shut down. No rhyme nor reason as to how long it takes. When I last contacted support they told me there were only 4 parts that could fail and if I was still having issues I was testing it improperly. Basically giving me a 300 pound paperweight that I have to constantly monitor and clean to keep it somewhat functioning. I spend at least 3 hours per week clearing jams and resetting the unit. I won't get into the fact that the temp control doesn't work. If you put it on 10 or 5 it burns the same speed. The pellet burn pot overflows constantly causing incomplete burning of the pellets. If you turn it below 5 it will sometimes shut off and the pellets wont completely burn make it impossible for it to restart without clearing the lump of coal that forms from the incomplete burn. The paint on the entire unit is flaking off making it look like it was dragged behind my vehicle and sometimes when it starts it doesn't immediately ignite causing a flashover and filling the entire house full of smoke. Basically scour the web and find everything negative thing you can find about pellet stoves and Pelpro has managed to squeeze every one of those into one single unit. I have owned pellet stoves since my first house in 2001 and have NEVER had the issues with them in 25 years that I have in less than 2 months with this one. I tried to return it to Tractor Supply but by the time I was fed up with trying to fix it I was past the 30 day return window.

No, I do not recommend this product.

We're sorry to hear that your are not happy with your stove. Unfortunately, random failures do happen, which is why we have the warranty in place. We do not request parts back unless there is a consistent failure rate in multiple stoves. When the auger jams often, this is typically caused by pellets that are too long or that have an excess of sawdust. This can cause the cotter pin to shear or knock the motor out of its bracket, which would explain why it is turning fully and pulling the connectors apart. As for the unburnt pellets, this is usually a symptom of an airflow issue. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this further with you and help find resolutions to get your stove up and running consistently. Please reach back out to our Consumer Support at (877) 427-3316 and let them know that you are calling in regard to a review. HHT
