Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all purpose - not just meat birds Meat bird is a great all purpose, higher protein, poultry feed. It is great for layers. It is great for hens that are molting. Laying hens know how much calcium they need and will eat it on their own from a separate calcium dish. Mother nature is wonderful that way! They will naturally regulate their calcium intake. Layer feed is loaded with calcium. Calcium weights a lot, so a 50 pound bag of layer feed is actually mostly calcium supplement. Get meat bird and supplement the calcium. You hens will eat less becasuse it is more "food" in that 50 pound bag, look better, and regulate their own calcium the mother nature way.

Could I feed this to quail

Asked by: Steve547
Yes, except if they are breeders, there is not enough calcium, but that can be supplemented with ground oyster shell given free choice. If it is for baby quail, make sure to grind it down some, with a blender or rolling pin.

Can I feed it to my hens for protein because they are molting

Asked by: adren
Meatbird would not be your best option. The best option on the market (and Tractor does carry it in all locations) is the NatureWise Feather Fixer. It is specifically design for hens that are experiencing molt. The formulation will not prevent molt as it is a naturally occurring phenomenon for hens, but will speed up the rate of feather growth to shorten the timeline that they are “molting”. It will also speed up the timeline to get your hens laying again. Side note, a lot of customer use it year round as a layer feed while experiencing enhanced feather colors and quality! TSC carries Feather Fixer in both the 40# SKU # 1110236 and the 7# size SKU # 1077771.

Can this be fed to baby ducks? and at what age?

Asked by: bevy1949
This will depend on the type of duck this would be fed to. If it is being fed to show ducks/pets, the manufacturer would suggest the NatureWise Chick Starter/Grower that TSC carries as this is a non-medicated starter. The lower protein will help to avoid what is known as Angel Wings. If it is a meat type duck, then they would suggest the NatureWise Meatbird as the higher protein will help to reach the desired processing weight quicker. Either of these options can be fed at hatch.
