Q: Are these harmful for the ecosystem if they get into streams or lakes? Can this be mixed into soil when starting a new lawn from seed? If so, for how many months will the crystals be functional?

    A: Miracle-Gro Water Storing Crystals is not recommend for lawns. We so not recommend applying this where there is potential run off into rivers or lakes.

A total lifefor thirsty plants- just follow the instructions because a little goes a very long way

These crystals work incredibly well to keep soil moist and cut down on watering. A tiny amount goes long way, so definitely follow the package instructions- if you use too much, they will swell right out of the pot! Once you get the the ratio right, they are absolute lifesaver for outdoor baskets and thirsty plants. Highly recommend.

Best for inconsistent watering

I love using miracle gro for my plants! I’m really bad at watering my plants as often as I should but this product really does help! You sprinkle some of this in your soil and the crystals absorb the water and help with having to water your plants so frequently. I’ve definitely noticed a difference with my plants using this product so I will added this step when caring for my plants!

Good for retaining moisture

I used this product in 3 houseplants. These one particularly, the soil drys up quickly. I didn’t repot them, just carved out some holes per the instructions and slipped the crystals in. I think it’s really only worked for 2 of the 3 plants. I’ve noticed the soil retains moisture for much longer now. The crystals expand into a jelly like substance which is where the moisture stays. It seems to last a long time and a little bit goes a long way.

Hydrated, Happy Plants!

Adding these crystals to my plants was easy and effective! You don’t need too much for each plant and it seems to keep my plants hydrated for longer. They do expand once watered which I noticed made the soil puff up after adding them as directed, but after patting it back down it was good to go! No spills and little mess.
