    Dirt

Tractor supply asked me to review my dirt purchase so here it is. It’s dirt, it came in a red and black bag. It has a nice earthy scent. My lawn tells me it likes it. My dog likes to roll in it, that’s how I know it’s the good stuff! Never buy dirt without first reading the reviews!

    Terrible product

Quality soil has a balanced blend of Sand, Organic matter and small gravel for drainage. This is mulch. I am a landscape contractor who deals with soil daily, and was recently given a job where my customer had a pallet of this garbage "premium soil" on site for re-seeding their lawn. I opened one bag and realized this "topsoil" is merely pine mulch in disguise, and warned the customer that the first rainstorm will wash all of the mulch away, as a good soil will just barely hold a ball when clenched. They had me do it anyway, citing that they already have it on site and it was a "great deal". So I did it. And low and behold the first rainstorm washed the "topsoil" away, leaving puddles of twigs and seed in their garden beds rather than being held in place by a soil with higher sand and small stone quantities. Save yourself the trouble of having to do the sae project twice, stay away from this "topsoil" mulch at all costs for seeding jobs.

    Infiltrated with crabgrass

I thought I would help my lawn by adding a layer of this in some bare areas. Now I’ve got crabgrass, big really thick masses of it everywhere I’ve put this. I’ve planted grass seed but the crabgrass took right over from the start. What a headache.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Weed germination is a very common part of the planting process. Native soil naturally contains dormant seeds. Often around 10,000 per cubic foot!
