Saves Time

This float valve is awesome as it has saved me an enormous amount of time filling our stock tank. I never worry about the horses and cattle not having plenty of water. Highly recommend it.

Don't let it freeze!

I use this float to keep my big dogs watered. It works very well, but with one caveat: You can't let it freeze. At least not if you want to use it again. The weakness is in the little plastic orifice/valve opening the water flows through. If that orifice has ANY water in it whatsoever and the temperature goes below freezing, the plastic will break, which renders the shut-off valve inoperable. This flaw was demonstrated dramatically for me this morning. My original Little Giant float had failed early this winter for the reason above. I replaced the unit last week. Last night we had what will likely be the last hard freeze of the year here. In anticipation, yesterday I emptied the water bucket and turned off the water supply to the float. It didn't matter -- this morning I found the end of the water orifice, filled with ice, broken off down in the bottom of the bucket. I'll replace the float again because it works just great when the weather is warm. It's just not suitable for winter use or cold climates. Even using a water bucket heater wouldn't solve the problem. Overall, it's a bad specification for the engineering plastic used to mold the valve.

Poor quality control

So disappointed with this product. Bought the first one with a sealed box and it was missing parts. Returned for another only to discover it had a hole in the plastic float (defect in plastic) and allowed the tank to continue to fill and overflow. Returned the second float for the third one and upon unpackaging it had the same defect in the plastic on the float. A small hole that would allow water in. Ended up using epoxy on a brand new float to make it work so I didn’t have to return the third one!!! What an absolute joke. Their quality control is lacking.

No, I do not recommend this product.

We had the all plastic waterer in the past but it developed leaks that this metal model does not exhibit at all.
