The Stock Tank Secret Stock Tank Treatment eliminates the hassle of dumping and scrubbing slimy green, unsanitary livestock water tanks! Completely safe and chemical-free, this 100% organic barley straw stock tank water treatment helps keep stock tanks clean to maintain palatable drinking water. It's easy to use and lasts for up to two months. Made in the USA, this treatment features universal compatibility.
- Stock tank water treatment is completely safe and effective treatment that contains no chemicals, pesticides or herbicides and has no toxic side effects
- To use Stock Tank Secret, tear off the paper label at the perforation and throw the entire unopened bag of Stock Tank Secret into the tank; do not open the bag; one bag is good for an average 200 gal. stock tank; for larger or extremely dirty tanks, use two
- After two months, take out the old bag and replace it with a new bag of Stock Tank Secret
- Made with pride in the heartland of Nebraska, USA
- Commonly used by horse owners, it can be used with cattle, goats, sheep, swine, poultry, fish and even exotic animals like alpacas and llamas
- Can be used in livestock water tanks, automatic waterers, larger birdbaths, ornamental ponds and fountains and garden ponds containing fish and aquatic plants
- Weekly chore of dumping and scrubbing stock tanks is a hassle; Stock Tank Secret was developed by a horsewoman and her veterinarian to eliminate this messy task
- Stock Tank Secret is easy to use and effective in keeping livestock water tanks clean and drinking water palatable for up to two months; the little-known 'secret' is barley straw, which has been used for decades in England as a water treatment
- Stock Tank Secret begins working immediately
- May not notice its effect for a week to ten days; might observe the sides of the stock tank turning black as the barley straw treatment starts to work
- If your tank has a lot of dirt and residue built up along the sides of the tank, it may start coming off in sheets and do so for about a week; take a shovel or a manure fork and fish the floating debris out of the tank
- Your stock tank will become clearer and the tank will remain clean for about two months
- Stock Tank Secret works best if you top off your tank frequently

Highly recommend this!

We have used this twice in the past year and its time again. We use it in our 100 gallon Rubbermaid tank we have set up as an environment in our home for three large red-eared slider turtles. This product truly works to keep the odor at a minimum for a long, long time.

Didn't work for me
I bought this based on other reviews, but it didn't work at all for me. I had a new stock tank (had been using it for just a couple of weeks) and decided to use this to keep it clean. The water was crystal clear when I added it (and had been for several days) but this turned the water very brown. I thought maybe it was just because barley chaff was rinsing out on the first use. My horses weren't drinking as much as usual, so I dumped the tank, cleaned it, hosed off the barley straw bag and tried again. The water stayed clear longer this time, but after it rained and agitated the water it turned brown again. And again my horses stopped drinking as much. I left it in to see what would happen ... in just a few days the water was green with algae. The bag itself was covered in green slime. I threw it out and started over without it. The horses are now drinking their normal quantities again.
I wonder if climate and water temp have anything to do with the performance of the product?

Skeptical at first, now I'm a believer!

I work at a boarding facility, and we have 5 stock tanks. Decided to try this in one of them to see if it made a difference. I was skeptical, but the tank that has the barely bag is significantly cleaner and doesn't need to be dumped and scrubbed every other day like the others. The bag floats at the top and will become green, as it collects the algae. I do rinse the algae off the bag when I refill the tank, so it can continue doing its job. I was so impressed I am buying one for every tank. Not sure if letting it float is making the difference vs submerging, as the other reviews who didn't have the same luck with it.

didn't work for me

I tried a similar barley product and it did not work. Put it in a clean tank and left it for a few weeks, as I'd read it sometimes takes time to work. It never cleared up and worse my horses wouldn't drink from the tank. Emptied it and started over. I have better luck adding two capfuls of disinfecting mouthwash to the 100 gal tank. The horses like the minty flavor and drink well, and the tank stays clean much longer than without it.
