KBS Coatings Diamond Finish Clear - Pint
Color:
A pint of KBS DiamondFinish Clear is the one project size, enough to clear a mower deck, a set of wheels, a pair of trailer fenders, a toolbox, or the hood you just repainted. It is a single component moisture cured urethane, so there is no hardener to mix and no catalyst to buy. Stir it and go. It goes direct to metal or straight over cured paint, and it works on polished aluminum, chrome, stainless, and fiberglass. It cures water clear and stays clear, reaching 7H pencil hardness in 7 days and holding up through 1000 hours of salt spray. It shrugs off diesel, fertilizer, battery acid, and most every solvent, and it is rated to 325 degrees Fahrenheit without yellowing. Brush it, roll it, or spray it. It self levels so brush marks flow out, and you can cut and buff it after 24 hours. A pint covers about 50 sq ft per coat at 2 mils. It is UV stable but does not block UV, so the color under it must be UV stable in full sun. Made in the USA.Prep is what makes a clear coat last. Over a cured automotive base coat, let the color dry about an hour and go straight over it. Over older cured coatings, wash with KBS Klean diluted 10 parts hot water to 1 part cleaner, scuff with 600 to 1200 grit, clean again, rinse, and let it dry completely. On bare ferrous metal, polish or sand to the finish you want, then clean at that same 10 to 1 dilution. On aluminum, brass, or copper, drop to 25 parts hot water to 1 part KBS Klean, wipe rather than soak, and rinse right away. On fiberglass, clean, scuff with 600 to 1200 grit, clean again, and dry. On bare wood, thin the first coat 30 to 50 percent with KBS number 1 Thinner to seal the grain, let it cure 24 hours, sand smooth with 280 to 320 grit, then build your finish coats. Never wipe the surface with a solvent rag or a tack cloth, since the residue they leave causes fisheyes. Apply between 50 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit in moderate to dry air, and stay out of rain and high humidity. Do not shake the can and do not paint out of the can. Stir gently and thoroughly, touching the bottom to lift settled resin, pour a working amount into a clean steel or glass container, and reseal the can right away. Never pour unused material back in. Apply a minimum of 2 thin covering coats at about 2 mils each for general work, and 3 coats for marine or industrial service. Thin 10 to 15 percent with KBS number 1 Thinner or xylene when spraying, and never with lacquer thinner. Recoat once the previous coat is dry to the touch and leaves no fingerprint, usually 2 to 4 hours. It handles in a day, becomes hard in about 4 days, and keeps hardening for weeks. Clean tools and guns immediately with KBS number 1 Thinner, because cured DiamondFinish Clear cannot be removed by any solvent.
