Q: Has anyone tried these for throwing? Looking to build a small cost effective range, figured these might be a good start for the axes.

  • A: I've used these for throwing. They work just fine. I ended up busting the heads off 2 with odd angle throws but that lasted a pretty good while before that. For the price they do just fine for a home target. I asked the guy at am Asheville place what they use and he said go to tsc or northern tool.

Q: How well does this hold an edge? Does it "ring" when struck with a metal object, or does it simply "thunk"?

1 Answer
  • A: The blade is sharp enough to dig in deep and give a good hold. It does not “ring” when struck with a metal object but it simply “thunk”, while the sound will be low.

Good quality hatchet

I use this for hacking up small pieces of firewood. The balance and weight are good. The only reasons I didn't give it 5 stars are because the head is a bit loose from when I purchased it and I haven't had it long enough to see how it long it will last.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Quality Tool

New rendition of a very old tool…I have an original early 1900’s GTW Germantown Tool Works carpenter’s hatchet and this new one I bought from TSC is just as good…much cleaner for sure! Well worth the money for a quality tool.

Failed design -- manufacturer ignorance

Abomination, really. Anyone who looks at it knows GroundWorks hasn't got a clue what a "half hatchet" design is, or what it's for. Why did they jack with the main feature -- the ruler-straight line from poll to toe? That's the whole defining concept of the half hatchet. It's "half a hatchet." Meaning, it's got the other half of its profile divided by a straight line to make it possible to hammer in confined space, such as against a ceiling. It is *not* meant to be a woods tool. It's a contractor's hatchet. If you need something to use around a camp or campfire, get a hand ax. If you want a hatchet for roofing or light carpentry, get a hatchet from a brandname manufacturer.

No, I do not recommend this product.
