I've purchased several Duromax engines over the last five years, I have been completely satisfied with every single one of them.

I replaced a Bridge and Stratton two cylinder 18hp IC with the Duro Max 18 HP, 440cc on my DR Wood Chipper. Had to modify the trailer base a little. Works perfect for a quarter of the price!

DO NOT BUY! STAY CLEAR OF THIS ENGINE! IT IS NOT 18 HP. 420cc may equal many things depending on your application. THE MOTOR BOGS DOWN AND SHUTS OFF UNDER STRESS. THE HAND PULL CORD, WHEN PULLED HAS SEVERE PULLBACK AND THE COIL INSIDE CRACKED AND BROKE.

I ran this engine 8 times for about 10 minutes each time. THE ENGINE IS NOT 18 h.p @420CC. THE ENGINE WITH CALCULATIONS IS AT BEST 15 h.p. because 420cc divided by 32 only equals 15 hp. The engine locks up with rope PULLBACK when the rope is pulled at least once each time I have used the engine. and, will break your hand if not careful. I called DUROMAX tech support and he said there was no parts diagram that he could send me. THEN HE SAID THE PULL CORD ASSEMBLIES WERE BACK ORDERED AND HAD NO IDEA WHEN THEY WERE COMING IN. POOR PRODUCT, POOR SERVICE, AND A PERSON WOULD HAVE TO BE CRAZY TO BUY ANY DUROMAX PRODUCT.

Having trouble, Brand New out the box wants to run wide open.....somethings not right. I had high hopes for this made in America engine but i'm so let down. Please anyone that can help !!!!

I have not yet installed this engine, however a YouTube mechanic recommended it as a direct replacement for the failed Kawasaki Mule engine. The product looks.good, and should work as demonstrated. The shipper caused some minor damage, and the vendor mande good quickly with no hassle. Because of their customer service, I would gladly do business with them again.

Hands down one of the best engines made for Mudmotors. So much compact power. It works great on any Jon Boat in the 12ft to 15ft range plenty of usable power. It's also compatible with predator 420 stage one kits and exhausts. The engine is awesome you cannot beat its power for price or smiles per mile ratios. This engine is so reliable.

Check for shipping damage. First one I receive fuel tank and ignition switch for completely unusable. The second one I received ignition switch was broke off. I needed the engine so I fix ignition will not buy another one

I was replacing a 16HP V- twin engine on a log splitter. I had my doubts with the single cylinder replacement, figuring I would have to lower the kick down pressure setting on the two stage pump. I didn't have to change anything. The engine performed perfect. I received the engine with a dented fuel tank from shipping. Tool-Max sent out a new tank without any problem.

Just added engine oil and filled it up with gas. Started first pull and runs great

They report 3 hrs/1.7 gallons. Well I run a 12v 1 wire alternator to charge Deep Cycle Batteries. Just a little faster than an idle is how fast I keep it running. I run on average 9 hours on those 1.7 gallons or from dead battery "11.9 to as low as 11.5" volts "dead" battery to fully charged at 12.7 Volts at the end of a 10 hour period, 1 hour cool down after the charge. That is a 2 sets of 6 v Deep Cycle batteries wired as 12 v. Oh the 11.5 V is more than enough to start this 18 HP motor set up. I am pushing 400 hrs on this motor. The location has no electric power supply, batteries and inverters... Refrigerator and hot plate and other tools...

I bought this engine for my homemade band sawmill... I needed something with the power to push through hardwood and softwood, but didn't want a big bulky engine that limited my mills mobility. This engine is well shaped, similar to the picture, but not the same... As for performance, it does it's job, but the controls, starter, solenoid, and key start box are very cheaply made... The screw for the solenoid stripped with just a wrench and little pressure... The wiring diagram that comes in the owners manual doesn't match the actual wires on the engine or on the key box (I removed this altogether)... The throttle control on mine is made from thin galv metal and if used too much feels like it would bend or break clean off... As for the shaft and engine performance, it's great - usually starts on the first or second pull... It seems to have plenty of power for my sawmill, but I have nothing to compare it too... Cons: Solenoid is garbage No good wiring instructions Controls are very cheaply made Pros: Cost is excellent Compact design Starts easily Shaft is well machined Somewhat quiet running It seems solid - no valve clanking, etc. Works well overall I gave it a 4 star rating for the fact that it's a good engine and does it's job regardless of controls, key box wiring, and solenoid issues... 5 stars for the engine itself and 1 star for the controls, wiring, and solenoid... Overall, I think 4 stars is fair for what I paid... I would also buy this engine again if I needed another one...
