Fig 'Chicago Hardy' can be enjoyed fresh or dried and are delicious added to desserts or even on a pizza! The delicious fruit has a sweet, rich flavor, and is high in minerals and fiber. This hardy shrub produces dark-colored fruit with light brown to violet skin. 'Chicago Hardy' Fig is a dormant plant selected by DeGroot, offering you the opportunity to get a head start to the season! Due to its dormant state, this plant may lack foliage until it is planted. There is no need to wait until after frost, this may be planted as soon as the ground is workable. This early planting prevents transplant shock and allows it more time to develop its root system. If your plant does have foliage, provide protection from frost. Depending on the climate and weather experienced after planting, this plant could take up to 4-6 weeks to break dormancy and show signs of growth. Healthy trees, great purchase!

I bought two of these trees in the spring, gave one to my in-laws, and both were planted in ground within a week of purchase. They both were small and just emerging from dormancy. It is now late summer, and my tree is very happy, healthy, has already grown to about 4.5 feet tall, and is absolutely loaded with figs!! My in-laws tree ripened a fig already. A couple more weeks and I will taste my first Hardy Chicago fig, so happy with this purchase.

Bought two. When opened they were about 3 inches. One wasn’t even rooted. It was just a cutting. Tried to root in damp soil but it died. Do not buy!

Excellent bare root product

I have dozens of fruit trees and bushes but never a fig. Bought one at TSC in early March and in 4 weeks it’s grown about 8 inches and has huge healthy leaves! Excited to try figs!
