Chinese Wisteria is a climbing favorite featuring gorgeous clusters of blue-violet flowers in late spring. This long-lived vine is vigorous and makes a beautiful addition to archways, pergolas, fences, and trellises. It may also be used as a bonsai project or to create a decorative screen for the patio. Chinese Wisteria is a deciduous vine with deep green foliage offering a beautiful backdrop to this dramatic display of weeping blossoms. It will grow in most soils and regular pruning is recommended to encourage flowering and maintain its size and shape.Guaranteed to Grow: Product must be purchased before June 1st. Q&As

Q: Do you sell American Wisteria? Asian Wisteria, specifically Chinese, is EXTREMELY invasive. I love the look and smell of wisteria, but I have no interest in strangling the nearby trees (as I have witnessed of Chinese Wisteria).

A: Dear ForTheBirds, Thank you for your question. We do not currently offer American Wisteria. Plant restrictions vary from state to state and county to county, and they are everchanging. We do our very best to monitor restricted species and follow guidelines in an effort to not sell in restricted states. If you have additional questions, we encourage you to contact us at (269) 468-6714 or sales@degroot-inc.com so we may assist you. Thank you, DeGroot Inc.

Q: How long will it be before I can expect blooms?

1 Answer
  • DeGroot
A: Dear JT Reynolds, Thank you for your question. Our product is dormant, packaged bare root plants intended to be without foliage (leaves) while in the store. Depending on the climate and weather experienced after planting, this plant could take up to 6-8 weeks to break dormancy and show signs of growth. The expected bloom time for Wisteria Chinese is about late spring depending on when it is planted that timing could be delayed a bit. We encourage you to contact us at (269) 468-6714 or sales@degroot-inc.com if you have additional questions. Thank you again for your inquiry. Thank you, DeGroot Inc.

Q: I saw this was the Chinese variant of wisteria but aren’t they invasive? I bought one off impulse but I would not want to plant an invasive species if it would cause problems for native species.

1 Answer
  • A: This wisteria is propagated in the United States. It is native to China. The manufacturer monitors invasive species in an effort to not sell in restricted states. If you have additional questions, we encourage you to contact (269) 468-6714 or sales@degroot-inc.com so you may be assisted.

Great plant but know what you are getting...

I haven't had a wisteria in a few years and was looking to get another one when I seen this one and started reading the comments. In the past, I have had a great experience with them. They are very invasive, but you should know this before you buy it. They are very easy to grow once they get started and next to impossible to destroy. Going through all the comments, I notice that there are really only 2 different ones. 'I bought a stick that didn't live" or "I've enjoyed the plant". What are people doing incorrectly that makes the comments so polar opposite of each other? There is no middle ground here which is very unusual for any product. I enjoy making the vines into a tree by braiding the vines as they grow up one central pole. It turns out to be a beautiful ornamental tree this way. When you plant it, make sure there are no structures or other plants around it. They will take over. My first one grew into the siding of my house and popped it out. One the good side, this is a beautiful plant. The fragrant blooms do not last that long, but they have the best smell and the foilage is very attractive on its own in tree form. If you are trying to decide if this plant is for you, do your research on it and select a good location where it won't cause harm.

Yes, I recommend this product.

If you want every tree near it to be suffocated by the vines and roots all through your yard get this beautiful devil vine. The beauty isn’t worth the damage it causes. Getting rid of it is dang near impossible. Highly NOT recommended!!
