The 185 lb. tow behind fertilizer spreader can cut down on the number of passes necessary to fully cover your lawn due to its wide distribution pattern of up to 12 ft. Because of this tow spreader's random distribution pattern, over-fertilizing and under-fertilizing are reduced. The large poly hopper and spreader plate resist corrosion. "Almost" Perfect?

Let me start from the beginning. I purchased this model over others as the price was good compared to other spreaders in this category. The instructions were also "almost" perfect, as well. While assembling this unit, it was straight forward and a one man job, until I had to bolt on the tow bar. For me, it was impossible to do without another set of hands. Once this was done, I also needed help with installing the adjustment assembly. Now this is where I deducted one star; while spreading a weed and feed, the chrome bar that runs from the handle to the gate on the bottom of the spreader fell off during tow. I didn't even realize until I looked back to see how much fertilizer I had left in the hopper. I cannot provide a fix for this, as I ran out of daylight and will be looking at it again in the morning. Hope this helps!

Since moving to a new house with a bigger yard, I was excited to replace my push spreader that I'd had for a decade. I purchased this based on reviews. After a couple passed across the property it quit altogether. I'd thought it sounded louder than I expected during use. The shaft appears to be misaligned causing extra side load on the upper plastic bushing and the bottom plastic bushing. So much that after the upper bushing failed, the shaft started wearing a groove in the frame slot until the lower bushing broke apart. The gears seized up immediately after. Having metal gears was part of the decision making to buy this. It sucks that failure of these plastic bushings defeated this purpose. I called and ordered replacement parts the next day and I'm going on two weeks now with a boat anchor with a loaded hopper taking up space in my garage. They should rename their SpeedEpart page to SnailMaiIParts. Calling back didnt help anything. I didn't plan on writing a review until after I'd actually had a chance to use it under normal conditions but enough is enough. I waited 2 weeks to get this delivered, now another 2 weeks to get a part. Tired of waiting. I'm glad the other guys had luck with it. Such a shame because I have 3 other Agri-Fab products that I've never had an issue with.

Perfect for my small farm

I bought this after my Agri-Fab 130lbs spreader finally wore completely out after about 10 years of use. Even then it was mainly just that the tires had shredded so I felt it was time to upgrade. My usage is on a 3 acre pasture to spread seed twice a year and fertilizer 3 times a year. The key to keeping these things alive is to spray them down with water after spreading fertilizer because that stuff will eat up the metal, and store it out of the elements. Pay close attention to spray and lubricate the shut off plate and mechanism underneath the hopper.
This 185lbs unit is better in every way from a stronger frame to bigger tires. Assembly was easy and the instructions clear enough. You will do yourself a big favor if you use a wrench along with a socket on a drill attachment to tighten the nuts and bolts. I wanted to point out that the star gear that engages the drive plate is metal, which I was particularly glad to see because in pictures I couldn't tell if it was plastic.
The hopper held a 50lbs bag of seed just fine which has a greater volume than the 50lbs bags of fertilizer I'll spread in the spring. My terrain is uneven and the wheelbase is plenty wide and never gave the slightest concern it would tip. I didn't use the hopper cover but it is still nice to have. The only thing I would change about the operation is that I wish the control handle was closer to the operator so I didn't have to reach back so far.
The only complaint I have is the design of the flow control assembly. I don't understand why the control plate has slots instead of holes, there is no need for adjustment here and it will only serve to confuse people during assembly. Just slide the plate all the way to the right before tightening the bolts or else the control lever can't close the gate and it will leak product.
For the most part it is a simple design which should mean little to nothing to go wrong. I am very happy with the spreader and anticipate many years of use.
