There are beliefs, unsubstantiated by scientific evidence, that carrageenan is "bad" for pets. However, carrageenan, an extract from edible seaweed, is an approved food additive for safe use as a thickening agent in pet food. It is referenced as an approved ingredient in the Association of American Feed Control Official Publication and the Code of Federal Regulations, 21 CFR 172.620. It should be kept in mind that there are multiple types of carrageenan (kappa, iota and lambda) used for different purposes. Carrageenan often gets confused with the degraded version called polygeenan, which is believed to be associated with potential GI tract issues. We do not use degraded carrageenan (polygeenan). Q: Why am I not allowed to order this product and have it shipped to the store? Crossville has not carried this item for 6 months. It is unacceptable that this website refuses to let me order canned dog food and have it delivered to the store for pick up.

All of the 4Health products contain some amount of salt. Salt is a source of two essential nutrients- sodium and chloride.
