There are beliefs, unsubstantiated by scientific evidence, that carrageenan is "bad" for pets. However, carrageenan, an extract from edible seaweed, is an approved food additive for safe use as a thickening agent in pet food. It is referenced as an approved ingredient in the Association of American Feed Control Official Publication and the Code of Federal Regulations, 21 CFR 172.620.
