Snaps, Clasps & Carabiners

Snaps, clasps and carabiners are the kind of hardware you don't think about until one fails. Tractor Supply stocks a full range of connectors along with our ropes and accessories, covering everything from barn equipment to boat rigging. The right fitting keeps your setup secure and saves you from improvising in the field.

Small Hardware, Secure Connections

Snaps, clasps and carabiners are small yet essential hardware — they create quick, firm connections on lead ropes, rigging lines, toolbelts and livestock gear. The gate mechanism varies by type, but the goal is the same: attach fast, hold firm and release cleanly when needed.

Carabiners are the most widely recognized anchoring solution. The frame is oval or D-shaped with a spring-loaded gate on one side that opens to receive a rope, strap or ring, then closes under spring pressure. Aluminum frames keep weight low and work well for lighter-duty use, such as organizing gear or securing bag handles. Steel frames weigh more but hold heavier loads and remain intact under the friction that comes from rigging or equipment work. The job you're facing tells you which material makes sense.

Single and Double Bolt Snap Options

Bolt snaps open with a thumb-operated spring bolt that slides back, then returns automatically on release. That simple mechanism makes them fast to use with one hand, even when you're working quickly. Single-ended styles are available with a swivel or fixed eye, and finishes include nickel, brass-plated and zinc, depending on the environment. A swivel eye allows the snap to rotate at the attachment point, which reduces twisting in the connected rope or strap. Double-ended bolt snaps provide a working bolt on each end, allowing two points to be linked without extra hardware.

Purpose-Built Snap Styles

Not all snaps are built for the same job. Breeching snaps are zinc-plated connectors used in horse harness setups, where a large animal's movement creates a constant pull on the hardware. Cattle and bull snaps have a swivel eye that lets the snap rotate, so the lead rope doesn't twist during handling. Boat snaps are available in brass-plated and stainless steel, with fixed and round-eye options. Stainless steel holds up better in areas with routine saltwater or extended wet exposure, while brass-plated finishes are a better fit for freshwater or sheltered marine use.

Snap D-Rings and Plugs

D-rings and snap plugs solve fastening problems that standard snaps aren't designed for. A snap D-ring combines a D-shaped frame with a hinged gate and connects cleanly to straps, webbing and tack, especially where a flat surface needs a loop attachment point. Snap plugs and T-plugs are small brass fittings that press into a drilled hole to seal or finish the opening — they're a common finish detail in furniture, cabinetry and woodworking. These are the pieces that tidy up the edges of your project.
