Q&As

1 - 10 of 40 Questions

Q: I have a bag of the chick starter and the crumble has turned a gray color. Does this mean the food has gone bad. The birds are not eating it much. They have knocked it out of the feeder with their beaks.

1 Answer
  • A: Yes, based on the color change and your birds' refusal to eat it, the food has likely gone bad. Gray coloring in chicken crumbles is a significant warning sign that the feed is old, stale, or contaminated with mold.

Q: Can you use this feed with full grown silkies along with their chicks. I have all age silkies that eat together

  • Nature's Best Organic
A: Thank you for your question. You can feed this to full grown silkies along with chicks. If you also have laying chickens in your flock, we recommend that you put out a separate feeder with just oyster shells or calcium chips so that they can produce stong egg shells. If you would like to discuss further, please call us at 800.767.4537, we be happy to talk with you.

Q: How much does a chicken need per week between eight weeks of age and laying status?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. A chicken typically eats 1.5 to 2 lbs. of feed per week from 8 weeks to point of lay (around 18–20 weeks). That’s roughly 17 to 20 lbs. per bird total over that period.

Q: Is it OK to feed ducks and chicks the same starter food? I have both mixed together and wondering what food would be safe to feed both my baby ducklings and my baby chicks.

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, Thank you for your question. This is the information that we received from the manufacturer. “I do not recommend that. While there is nothing toxic to ducks in the chick starter grower, they have different nutrient requirements. The protein in the chick starter is pretty high for ducks, and the micronutrients are not tailored to what the ducks need. The best situation would be feeding them separately until they reach maturity. We recommend feeding our Nature’s Best Organic Chick Starter Grower and our Nature’s Best Organic Duck Crumble respectively.”

Q: I have a mixed flock with chicks and ducklings. What is the best natures best feex for my mixed flock.

  • A: Hi, We do not have a Nature's Best feed that has been tested for both chicks and ducklings. You might try mixing the two products. We always recommend consulting your vet. Got the chicks in Jan. from a hatchery. They are nearly grown already, growing faster than any batch we ever had. They look great!

Chicks love it!

I wasn’t sure if the chicks I got were vaccinated, so I opted for this food, thinking I could always switch, if needed. They’re growing well and very happy on this feed! No issues in 2 weeks :)

Adult sized crumbles sold as chick starter

Bought this in store and will be returning because the pellet size is way too big for chicks. Our adult birds eat Nutrena naturewise crumbles and they are smaller than this chick starter. Whoever let this be packaged and sold as chick starter should get fired. I'm not wasting my time trying to break it into finer crumbles.

No, I do not recommend this product.
