Hunter, a Border collie who has saved lives by finding earthquake survivors amid tons of rubble, is one of five canine heroes honored by the American Kennel Club's annual AKC Humane Fund Awards for Canine Excellence.
The awards honor five loyal, hard-working dogs that have made significant contributions as service dogs, companions, therapy dogs, law enforcers, and, in Hunter's category, search and rescue.
"The AKC Humane Fund Awards for Canine Excellence celebrate what dogs contribute to our lives and these five exceptional recipients exemplify the selfless service canines perform for us everyday," says Lisa Peterson, AKC spokesperson.
