These medium, numbered, orange-colored Y-Tex All American 3-Star Cattle Tags are made of an advanced polyurethane formulation and are engineered to prevent cracking, remain flexible and provide excellent longevity. The backing for the tags folds over will trying to puncture through the ear. I had to make an incision to get the tags on effectively. I eventually used some of my AllFlex eartag backs and they worked fine. The tags themselves seem fine although I only use them on my calves for 1-2 years. Overall the product is poorly made and more hassle than it should be.

numbers start fade after 2 years

The numbers fade well before 4 years. Many tags fall out also

Now poor quality tags

They used to be best tags on market, but now the quality is very poor. The black inset inside tag for button retention always falls out even several were missing from bag of new tags. The tags will not stay in ear now. I am switching over to using a one piece such as Z tag which so far has excellent retention

These tags are terrible.

These tags are notorious for failing to the point you cannot read them. Every once in a while I’ll get one bag that seems to remain where they are legible. Overall they are terrible about fading to the point you cannot read them at all
