does the rat die in the bait station and stay there?

Asked by: hate rats
Not typically. In most cases, rats (or mice) will feed on the bait and then leave to die somewhere else. In rare cases, deceased rodents have been found inside bait stations, but the stations are not intended as traps or to "capture" rodents.

Can these be used outside? weatherproof?

Asked by: oldgoaly
Absolutely - they are specifically designed to be used outdoors. These bait stations are made from a highly durable plastic that will protect rodent bait from the elements. This particular bait station does not have a locking mechanism built in so you will need to use a zip tie, screw, etc. to keep the lid locked down. Also, bait labels may require that the station be secured as well to avoid being knocked over by larger animals.

Is this rat bait station refillable ?

Asked by: Heidiz
Yes - it can be opened and refilled as needed. Bait would need to be purchased separately, - this station is not sold with any bait chunx initially.

I currently have 2 feeding stations provided by the County, temporarily anyway. They will soon be pulling them but I'd like my own just in case. Does this station have 2 entrances for the rats?

Asked by: Noods
Yes it does - there are 2 entrances on the station so that rodents can enter from either side.

I need to use somrthing rats are at my chicken coop. What if the rat/mouse and I need to know if my chickens gets one will it kill my chickens and catching my chickens is not easy as I have a back injury

Asked by: greys43
Unfortunately there haven't been any studies done to confirm the risk of secondary poisoning in chickens (if they should eat a rat that has died from poison). However, unless the Chickens are eating the rats as their primary food source, it's doubtful they would ingest enough poison to be affected. In addition, we would recommend using a bait with a non-anticoagulant active ingredient, such as Bromethalin. This active works faster than anticoagulant (blood thinner) baits, so the rats will consume less bait before dying. There has never been a documented case of secondary poisoning with Bromethalin. As always, you should follow label instructions and be sure to try and clean up and dispose of any dead rodents that you see. Often times though, rats will die in their underground burrows where the chickens won't have access.

How are the bait chunx blocks secured inside of the bait station? Are there metal rods to secure the bait blocks?

Asked by: Joex
Yes - it is sold with 4 bait rods that can be attached to bottom of the bait station to hold the bait blocks.

What Tier category is this product? 1, 2, 3, 4?

Asked by: OrangeN
As sold, the Tomcat Rat Bait Station has a minimal level of security. There is only a simple plastic clip that holds down the lid. However, it can easily be locked using a screw, zip tie or other means. In addition, if being used in an area where wildlife or hoofed livestock could have access, it should be secured to the ground as well. If properly locked and secured, it can be considered Tier 1, but that does require some additional effort from the user.

Can squirrels get to bait blocks?

Asked by: Joex
This particular station hasn't been tested to determine whether squirrels can access the bait, and it will also depend on the specific size/species of squirrel. The station is designed with fairly large entry openings to allow rats to get in, so its very possible that a small squirrel would be able to get in and access the bait.
