Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effective, Easy to Use I have used Tomcat place packs for over ten years in a large barn. They have been effective in bringing the initial rat & mouse infestation under control and eliminating the “newcomers “ as they tried to establish. Very convenient to place in remote areas and to retrieve empty packs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from FEED not killer I have spent hard earned money buying 3 pails of this stuff to no effect. Pouches are eaten, they love the stuff, but as opposed to DE-CON which they used to sell this stuff have had no impact. With DE-CON they would be gone with in a week or two.

Only have mice in the attic NOT the house. Read this may cause cancer. If central AC unit originates in attic is it safe to place pacs around in the attic? Should I place them under the house where the mice are coming up in walls instead?

Asked by: Joy65
As long as the bait isn't in an area that can be accessed by children, pets or other animals, using place pacs in an attic area is very safe. The active ingredients in the products sold to control mice at Tractor Supply are not know carcinogens (cancer-causing) and distribution through the AC system is not a concern since no gas is released. We recommend placing bait anywhere that you see signs of rodent activity - this can include chewing or gnaw marks, or droppings. Place Pacs can be used indoors if they're in an area that isn't accessible to children or pets.

will it kill chipmunks?

Asked by: chuchie57
This product has not been tested on chipmunks so there is no way to definitively say how it will affect them. The product label lists specific species that the bait will kill, including Norway Rats, Roof Rats, House Mice, Meadow Voles and several other rodent species. We do not recommend using the product to control any other species of animal. Live traps or large snap traps would be the only acceptable method of control for chipmunks.

What's the antidote if a dog gets into it?

Asked by: Hogibear
The active ingredient in this product is Diphacinone, which is an anticoagulant (blood thinner). The recommendation if a pet ingests any type of anticoagulant is to contact a veterinarian or poison control and administer Vitamin K as an antidote.

is this safe to use inside?

Asked by: foxbat73
Yes, however they should be placed in areas that can't be accessed by children, pets or other animals. Many people use Place Pacs for indoor baiting in hard to reach areas, but the bait can still be toxic if dogs or other animals get into it.

Can i throw this under my house or will the mice die under there and cause a bad smell?

Asked by: ashleighbre09
We always recommend that bait be put out in an area where it can't be accessed by children, pets or other "non-target" animals, so if the bait is secure enough under your house that it won't be hazardous to other animals that is fine. With the active ingredient in this particular bait, mice need to eat multiple times and it will take several days for them to die. There's no way to know for sure where they will die, but often they return to their nests or burrows, away from the actual location of the bait. Unfortunately all animals will have an odor as they decompose, but a lot of variables can determine the strength of the smell. The product label recommends disposing of any dead, exposed rodents and leftover bait.

If the rats and mice eat this and then die in the attic or in the wall of my house will it stink as they decay?

Asked by: kebs333
Many people believe there is a rodenticide available that causes mice to "dry up" so they don't smell, but unfortunately all rodents will emit an unpleasant odor as they decompose. There are different variables that can contribute to the amount of odor, including the temperature, humidity, and size of the space where the rodents have died. Often rodents will go outdoors after they've eaten the bait and/or die in an accessible area where they can be found and discarded, however there is no way to accurately predict where they will meet their final resting place. If smell is a concern, we would recommend using snap traps or glue boards to ensure the animal is caught and can be disposed of.

Can I just toss the package along a wall or Am I supposed to open the package wherever I place it? I want to use these in an industrial building where there are no animals or children. I was also wondering if mouse in attic chew package open

Asked by: MsFixit
There is no need to open the individual place pacs. Mice can still detect the odor of the bait and locate the bait pacs without opening them. Mice will gnaw through the paper to access to the bait.
