Tarter 3-Piece Heavy-Duty Bull Hay Feeder is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor design This particular bale feeder has a significant design flaw that causes horses to rub the mane off the top of their necks. The flanges on the top rail that allow the three sections to be bolted together are hanging down instead of standing up. Also, the flanges do not butt flush against one another, leaving a gap between the flanges that exacerbate the problem. Unless you don't mind the top of your horses next to be damaged, don't buy this bale feeder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holds up to bulls and big cows! This is my favorite hay ring so far! My cattle really push around on hay rings and the lighter styles don't hold up for more than a couple seasons if I'm lucky. I'm only getting this kind from now on. Only downside is occasionally a small calf will get into the ring once the hay has been eaten down to a low level but it hasn't been an issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bale feeder This is very durable, saves on hay, they eat it all, very little waste, it was worth the extra money just in the hay it saves. It is big enough that the little cattle, can find a way in.

Does this hay feeder work well for horses?

Asked by: Saline
We do not recommend this for horses or for horned cattle due to the top being closed. We have several hay feeders with open tops that are designed for horses - sku 2168032, sku 2168155, sku 2160026 and sku 1042634. Thank you,

what gauge steel is the skirt and the bars?

Asked by: cattle feeder
Because gauge terminology can vary company to company, we like to use overall weight when explaining thickness of steel. With that said, the S bars on this feeder are 19 gauge, the top 2" tube rail is 14 gauge and the skirt is 20 gauge. This is a very strong, rugged feeder. Please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks!
