Rated 2 out of 5 by from Was NOT a Tarter brand gate. Was some brand I've never heard of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for the Price I bought it because it was galvanized. It was also light enough for me to handle by myself. Sprayed it with two coats of primer and two coats of red paint. I am very happy with it. Also, the salespeople at Vass, NC are the most friendly and helpful I have ever met. This will last for years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exellent buy Originally purchased this gate to put across our driveway when we are away for extended periods. After 15 years it still looks good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Commercially viable I've had a pair of these gates mounted on the entrance to my small outdoor boat and RV storage lot and they've held up splendidly for 2 years now to daily use. They are kept closed with a chain in the middle which is wearing on teh thin wall tubing and will probably wear through one dau but until then, these are the best bang for your buck. They don't sag easily, even after we've climbed over the gate with our 160 lb bodies a few times, and the gates still perform like new. One problem we've had is the wind blowing the gates closed while trying to drive through them. These are extremely light weight gates, and the hinges are very free and easy to move so keep that in mind. You don't want them getting caught on your trailer as you drive through because the wind blows them into it. Also, I'v used these gates and 10 ft and 14 ft gates in our suburban privacy fences to make "invisible"' gates between the fence posts. By installing the gate, then hanging fence pickets matching the rest of the fence on the gate, we've managed to create what appears to be a seamless fence from the outside, but a fully finctional drive through sized gate to allow access to the backyard.

The pins?????? What do you insert the pins into to secure gate to a 6x6 post???

Asked by: Krazzyr
The pins will screw into the 6X6 post and fit into the hinges mounted on the end of the gate.

Would this gate or a gate comparable to this work as a gate across a driveway with an automatic gate opener mounted on it. I want to drive up, open gate with remote control, drive through, then close with remote. I purchased your Mighty Mule 550lb cpcty

Asked by: cskeen
Yes, this should work as long as it is a tube gate and not a wire filled gate.

One purchaser has primed and painted the gates and look great. Everyone in your and hardware stores say they can be primed and painted including the spray paint manufacturers state their primers are for adherence to galvanized metal. Can I paint???

Asked by: David 6166
Touch up paint can be requested through your local store. We recommend very light sanding to the rust area only and then paint. We don’t have recommendations on repainting an entire gate.

How far apart do I set the post to take into account of hinges for a tight/snug fit. Ex: 12 ft gate =set post 12 ft 5 inches apart 16 ft gate= set post 16ft 5 inches apart Don't know the dimensions of hinges included in this purchase.

Asked by: Krazzyr12
Gates are manufactured 3” shorted than advertised length to allow for hardware. For a 12’ gate you should be able to set your post at 12’ apart. It is however always recommended to hang the gate then setting your tie post.

What size/diameter is the vertical opening that accepts the hinge pin?  Will it accept the the hinge pin portion of the 12" J-bolt of your heavy duty gates?

Asked by: jim P
The opening is 5/8". The 12" pin will not work with the economy gate, but we do offer a 13" that can be special ordered through your local store. Part number HPG13.

What is the best way to paint these galvanized gates? Do I use primer Etc what kind?

Asked by: David Polo
The galvanized finish on these gates prevents paint and primer from adhering to the gate. You can check with your local stores to see if the color option you are looking for is available.
