Stanley 12 ft. x 1/2 in. PowerLock Tape Measure

Been using this 12' x 1/2" Tape Measures for over 45 years and now it is a plastic case instead of Die Cast Metal. Very disappointed

I can't count the number of years I have been using my Stanley tape measures. They are very durable. I have multiple lengths, but the 12' is my most used for around the house. I use the 25' one mostly for outdoor projects. The 12' is handy to keep in a purse, the car, a junk drawer, etc. The locking mechanism works as good as day one. The measurements are reliable and I like knowing there is a lifetime warranty that will back it up if I ever have an issue.

As a metal fabricator I have had several 12-foot Stanley Powerlock Tape Measures over the years. They are rugged and reliable, and the locking mechanism is intuitive and positive, unlike other tape measures I've used. They are also repairable. I do miss the old metal-case version, but even the newer plastic housings stand up well to the welding, cutting and grinding inherent in a metalworking environment. The coated blades hold up very well too. The hook is just the right size, the inside/outside slots actually work, and they hold zero when checked against a metal scale bar.

I've had a few Powerlocks over the years. Any time I've needed to buy a tape measure, this is the first one I look for. At work, I need a tape measure to measure products and case sizes. The 12-foot Powerlock gets the job done in a compact, reliable package. The size is just right. Large enough to be easily handled, yet slim and small enugh to slip into a pocket if I don't want it on my belt. The markings are clear and I haven't had issues with them getting rubbed off with use like the cheaper brands.
