herbacide contamination of straw hurts plants

I used this Standlee chopped straw in a potato tower. It caused the potatoes vines to shrivel and curl as if they had been treated with aminopyralid herbicide. Crop ruined.

Good for grass, not for garden beds

Bought this to lay down for new grass and prevent erosion in big patches where crabgrass had taken over my yard and I went ham on it with horticultural vinegar and a power rake. I'm pretty happy with its ability to stop most of the crabgrass from sprouting, it's doing great with the new grass and mitigating erosion; however, there are a LOT of barley sprouts coming up. I'm not sure what it means by "noxious weeds" because barley sprouts aren't exactly desirable. I would not recommend mulching your garden bed with this because you'll end up picking out barley from it every week. I don't mind doing it in my yard because it's nowhere near as invasive as crabgrass or poa annual, but I'm gonna stick to using it in the yard, not my garden.
Also, it's pretty dusty. Not to the point where you need to wear a mask, but make sure you're applying with the direction of the wind when you're laying this down. I water it in, and it stays put unless there's a heavy rainstorm.

It isn't as soft as I expected

This is a decent sized bag, it is highly compressed so its a lot of straw. It is chopped so the pieces are different sizes, the straw itself seemed a little softer , I bought this for insulated outdoor cat houses I make for the strays, it has some sharper feeling pieces in it which I was hoping it wouldn't have. Overall I am unsure if I should use it because I dont want anyone getting poked trying to lay down and sleep.
