The SportDOG FieldTrainer Remote Dog Training Collar is our smallest and lightest e-collar built for in-the-field training or hunting with close working dogs. Consistency and perfect timing are critical to developing your sporting dog, so the remote is quickly and easily operated without having to look at it - which lets you focus on your dog and not your equipment. with only a slight movement of the dial and the push of a button, you will be able to deliver a tone, vibration, or one of the 21 levels of static stimulation. Use these stimulation types to communicate with up to 3 dogs (with purchase of Add-A-Dog collars) out to 500 yd. with any of the 425 models. It's recommended for dogs 8 lb. or larger with neck sizes 5 in. - 22 in.

Q: Do these training collars come with a "dummy" collar that feels &looks like the correction collar without the capability of the real thing? Our last collar came with this feature and after a few corrections the dummy was all that was needed.

- A: Thanks for your question! You can indeed set both handhelds to activate the same receiver collar. In order to do this, you would need to manually change the ID codes on both of the handhelds so that they match, then pair the receiver collar to either one of them, which would effectively make both handhelds paired to that same collar. This is a fairly simple process and is described on page 14 or 15 (depending on the revision of the manual you have) of your Operating Guide as the step named "Change ID Codes".9 years agoHelpful?
Q: how large of a dog will this collar work with? my 6 month old Black Russian Terrier is about 85 lbs now and will get to 150+. A very powerful working class dog. Not a Terrier.

It works well for dogs of all sizes, and the level of static that works for a dog depends more on his personality and temperament than his size. Please ensure that your Russian Black Terrier understands basic commands such as sit, stay, and lay down before the trainer is used. Great training collar

We have a 20 month old lab that we have this same model for and it has been an amazing training piece for her. We are getting a new puppy in a few weeks and knew we needed one for the puppy eventually so decided to buy another one for puppy so we are ready when he comes. The battery life is great and the quality of the overall unit is just great!!!

Excellent product! Purchased my last SportDog trainer (an earlier version of this one) around 2009 and it still works fine, but wanted to take advantage of some of the newer features and advantages.
The 425x is great, and I really like the flexibility in configuring the transmitter and having variable stimulation ranges on the collar.
Also having the flexibility to use up to 21 versus 7 stimulations on the old device gives you much more ability to fine tune your dog’s range (my Golden is a 1.0 to 3.0 max).
I can also go back and use it like my old device by setting the transmitter up in mode 2 which gives me vibrate on the side button and tone on the other buttons - this is what I use 95% of the time to get my boy’s attention.
My Golden also is in the water a lot, so investing in a new waterproof device made sense.

Great product for your hunting dog

Responsiveness and consistency. My dog instantly reacts to the sound. She is now free to run at our park’s pond and chase geese and ducks. It’s given her a new lease on life at almost 8 years old. I couldn’t be happier with this product.
