Does. This paint require a primer prior to laying down the finish coat of this product? I will be using a gravity feed automotive style sprayer.

Asked by: Caferacer
If using Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Paint over a bare steel surface, the use of a primer is recommended to help promote proper adhesion. Check out Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Primer! Otherwise, the use of a primer is not needed, but the surface does need to be in good and sound condition. http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rust-oleum-specialty-farm-implement-gray-primer-1-qt?cm_vc=-10005

is this paint ready to use or do i need to mix it with catalyst, thinner or etc...thank you.

Asked by: onig
You’ve come to the right place! Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Enamel does not normally require thinning when used with a brush, roller, or an airless sprayer. If using an air-atomized sprayer, acetone should be used up to 15% by volume. If thinning is needed with an airless sprayer, use acetone as needed up to 5% by volume.

Painting a school bus using a roller. What is your recommendations about thinning and adding a hardener? Been reading several conflicting articles regarding this paint.

Asked by: JGMC
You can thin Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm & Implement paint by using 5%-15% acetone. We do not suggest a hardener with the product as it can cause application or performance issues with the paint. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

Does this work on galvanized metal?

Asked by: Batwingone
Thank you for reaching out! Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm & Implement Paint is not suitable for use on galvanized metal and will peel off over time. When you apply an alkyd oil based paint over zinc plated or galvanized surfaces, a chemical reaction occurs between the two materials. This process, known as “saponification”, causes a build-up of the reaction product between the zinc and the paint. Over time, the paint will begin to peel off in large sheets. This can be avoided by using a latex based primer. The primer will act as a barrier coat and prevent the reaction from occurring. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

does this product require a hardner

Asked by: hill074
Thank you for reaching out! Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Paint is a ready to use product and we do not recommend adding a hardener since it can affect the performance and adhesion of the coating. If wanting to spray this product on, it can be thinned with acetone.

Is a clearcoat needed with this paint, and if so which one.

Asked by: scorpion911
Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm and Implement Paint dries to a hard, glossy finish! If a clear coat is desired for additional protection, we recommend Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Protective Enamel Clear Spray. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rust-oleum-stops-rust-protective-enamel-gloss-12-oz-spray-clear?cm_vc=-10005
