Purina Omolene #400 Complete Advantage Horse Feed, 40 lb. is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Omolene 400 Beet Pulp I have been feeding Omolene 400 to my horses for years--long before it became an "Omolene" product and was called Complete Advantage. It is a complete feed through beef pulp product that my horses love, they look great, and best of all it does not make them hot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beet Pulp to the Rescue My older gelding has an alfalfa allergy, which made it extremely hard to find a feed for him. Most pelleted grains & supplements contain alfalfa. He is also a long bodied horse & it's hard to keep weight on him. I called Purina & spoke with their experts. They recommended Omelene 400, which I started my gelding on in December with free feed of beardless wheat hay. He began to put on weight through is topline & get a shiny coat. He put on so much weight that I'm now feeding around 4 pounds a day & he is maintaining great. I fed this as part of the feed greatness challenge.

Hello. I was wondering if I fed this to my horse who currently only eats complete feeds without hay, would he be able to eat pasture as well? Or would he be okay only on the Purina Omolene? If so, how often should he be out in the pasture? Thank you

Asked by: Rosie109
Thanks for choosing Purina. The Omolene 400 may be fed as the sole diet to replace all roughage, Or, it may be fed along with hay/pasture at a reduced rate. Here are the minimal feeding rates: Omolene® 400 Horse Feed contains high-quality roughage and can be fed without hay. If fed with hay, the feeding rates of Omolene® 400 Horse Feed can be reduced. To meet nutrient requirements, do not feed less than 0.6 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight per day (6 lbs per 1000-lb horse) of Omolene® 400 Horse Feed. To meet fiber requirements if fed with hay, do not feed less than a combined 1.2/100 lbs of body weight per day of Omolene® 400 Horse Feed and hay.

What are the percentages of fat, fiber, and protein?

Asked by: LoYo
Thanks for choosing Purina. The Protein is 12%, the fat is 5.5% and the fiber is 18%. The Omolene 400 will contain 1400 Kcal/lb. and may be fed as a complete with roughage diet. This means you may replace some, or all, hay as needed.

Are the fed in instructions the amount that should be fed in absence of any alternative feeds?

Asked by: RedRockteer
The Omolene 400 may be fed to replace some, or all, hay if necessary. However, you may feed along with hay and/or pasture. The product feeding rate online and also found on the feed label would be if being fed to replace all roughage in the diet.

Does this also have pre and probiotics?

How much should I feed a 23 year old 1100 lb warmblood mare in light work to help her to regain and maintain her former weight of 1200lbs - she has free access to good quality grass hay and turned out to dry lot

Asked by: Catie11
The bare minimum to feed to a horse that is able to eat hay will be 0.6 lbs. for each 100 lbs. in body weight (6 lbs. per day for a 1000 lb. horse). If you are using this to replace all hay, the bare minimum would be closer to 12 lbs. per day. These amounts are increased according to body condition and/or activity level. We have a pdf product sheet attached to our Purina Mills website if you would like to see the feeding chart. Or, you may call us at 1-800-227-8941.

Can this feed be used as a complete feed for a horse with Cushing's?

Asked by: 3Appy
While this is a complete diet, we suggest the traditional Equine Senior as a better option. The Equine Senior will be lower in starch and sugar percentage.
