Item Information

If you're looking for a fantastic early season forage solution for your deer plot, look no further than our exclusive forage oats. This chemical- and filler-free blend is for southern climates but does offer some cold resistance compared to other common forage varieties. University trials have shown that it's capable of producing over 10,000 lbs./acre. Forage Oats can be planted in August and September for grazing during bow season. Once plants emerge, they also respond very well to high-nitrogen fertilizers like ammonium nitrate (34-0-0). Southern food plots will last all winter, but oat food plots north of Tennessee or at high elevations will most likely freeze out Plant PlotSpike Forage Oats at 100 lbs. of seed per acre. Apply at least 300 lbs. of 13-13-13 or equivalent at planting.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Less than 10% germination Followed directions. Soil test, added nutrients, seeding etc. 200 lbs of seed on 5 different food plots. Almost none of seeds germinated despite 75 degree weather and plenty of rain. Will buy imperial or bio logic next year

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cat Grass I noticed the cat grass seed sold at the pet stores were usually oat, but the seeds are usually expensive. So, I decided to give this a try. It works great. My cats really like it, and one bag should last years. I like that this brand has no added fillers or chemicals.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor germination In fairness I did plant too early. The last week in Aug and we had a lot of rain. The ground was saturated and some puddling. I was leaving the country for a couple of weeks and wanted it in for the start of archery (Sept 19th) I got hardly any germination. I didn't check the bags to see if it was last years product. Planted 150# on two acres as a mix with the chicory and clover that was doing poorly because of the excessive rain.

How tall does the product grow, and will it grow all summer in west michigan if planted in April?

Asked by: Homesteady
The the full mature crop can grow up to 3 feet. This is a fall crop and will not do well planted in or before summer. It is best planted late August or early September.
