Item Information

If you're looking for a fantastic early season forage solution for your deer plot, look no further than our exclusive forage oats. This chemical- and filler-free blend is for southern climates but does offer some cold resistance compared to other common forage varieties. University trials have shown that it's capable of producing over 10,000 lbs./acre. Forage Oats can be planted in August and September for grazing during bow season. Once plants emerge, they also respond very well to high-nitrogen fertilizers like ammonium nitrate (34-0-0). Southern food plots will last all winter, but oat food plots north of Tennessee or at high elevations will most likely freeze out Plant PlotSpike Forage Oats at 100 lbs. of seed per acre. Apply at least 300 lbs. of 13-13-13 or equivalent at planting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff I planted this in a field last fall. Did not test the soil and simply sowed lime, fertilizer and seed. Came up fairly well and we surprised how well it fared throughout the winter. Now that spring is here it’s a lush green and looks beautiful in the field. As a wildlife forage I should know more after it really takes off this year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Results !! I planted PlotSpike Forage Oats and planted as per instructions, 100 lbs per acre and 300 lbs per acre of 13-13-13. I experimented by planting some in partial shade in my plantation pines. It grew very well under the pines. I didn't have time to lime so I left the soil on the acidic side of 5.2 ph. The results were very pleasing! This was my first attempt. The deer love these oats and graze it regularly. It's thick and green and the deer have even begun bedding up in it. I will plant this again next fall.
