Oyster shell usage for corn burning stoves:
Oyster Shell is recommended by some corn-burning stove manufacturers as an additive to promote clean burning, especially when the corn fuel is high in starch. Please consult your stove's manual to see if Oyster Shell is recommended for your stove and follow the manufacturer's directions for use precisely.

Burning Oyster Shell is NOT a substitute for daily cleaning of your corn-burning stove. Regular chimney inspections are always recommended. Oyster Shell does not take the place of inspection and professional cleaning of your chimney. For improved safety and home heating efficiency, it is recommended that all chimneys and vented appliances be inspected every year by a certified chimney sweep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value!!! It's 50 pounds of oyster shells for almost the same price as 5 pounds of oyster shells. The chickens eat them and their eggs look better than before. What's not to love.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from My hens prefer actual oyster shell I was constantly refilling my hens' oyster shell until I started using this. Now they hardly touch it and their eggshells are getting thin. I would prefer regular crushed oyster shell and so would they.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I have stupid chickens My chickens will not eat this. I have used different brands of oyster shell and they eat that. I think they like the thin flakes of shell and this is more pebble like. I gave it 3 stars for the price. I can't leave a lower rating because maybe my chickens are just defective and stupid...that is not the fault of the product. Manna Pro is a great company.

Can I blend this in a whole layer ration and if so what % of ration would you recommend? 100# per ton?

Asked by: Dan8440
When added to a complete layer feed, a common level of inclusion for oyster shell is 5%. So, you would add 50 lbs of oyster shell into 950 lbs of layer feed.

My neighbor says Oyster Shells are also used in place of grit. Just wondering if this is fact or fiction.

Asked by: rr777
This is fiction. These products serve two totally different purposes. Oyster Shells are meant for laying birds, because it has a high source of calcium. Oyster Shells are soluble and will break down once consumed. Grit will not break down, as it is composed of pieces of stone. Grit helps with breaking down other items in the chickens gizzard that have been consumed.
