Q: How to install and use the electric ignition that comes with it? There is absolutely nothing available on the separate coil that must mount somewhere and how to actually use the ignition.

Q: Replacement engine for a Tecumsch 6 HP. Will the mounting bolt be the same spacing for a Kohler SH265 6.5 HP engine.

- A: This has the same foot print and crankshaft height as a standard Briggs. This one has electric start as an option. There also is a standard recoil start. It will replace most standard Briggs engines less than 6.5hp.9 years agoHelpful?

I wanted electric start to save my shoulder

I purchased this to replace the non-electric start engine with an electric start version. I am impressed with how easily it now starts. Installation on the 25 ton Countyline log splitter I installed it on did require new holes on the mounting shelf of the splitter to move it over a few inches. Past that, there were no wiring diagrams online or in manuals for it, although one I found a YouTube video on Kohler engine color codes for electrical wires, it was easier. I am very pleased with the product.

I didn't buy my kohler sh series 196cc 6.5hp engine at tractor supply but am currently replacing it after 3 log splitting seasons. this motor has been near impossible to start if the weather is below freezing since new, internet concensus is try to get your spitting done early. when you tow it around or move it the carb float sticks open leaking gas on the ground and filling the cylinder with fuel causing hydro lock requiring spark plug removal to allow the engine to turn over and disassemble of float bowl to fix float. the muffler has a sharp note and developed cracks in the muffler can in 3 seasons. just my two cents John

New life for an old go-kart

I purchased this to replace an obsolete Tecumseh OHH65 on a go-kart for my grandkids. I didn't know at the time that this model is discontinued by Kohler as well but did receive a new engine. There base bolt pattern was the same so it wasn't a major job to fit it. The engine starts easily and runs well.
