It’s been a couple of weeks now and I’m just having some sprouts. I did the scalp method and I’m holding judgement. I’ll let you know more in 10 days or so. I’ve watered it at least 3 times a day.

Right out the gate, I'd give this product 4.5 Stars but seeing that half stars aren't available, I went with 4. I was skeptical about this, but I've got a large bare spot and trail that my dog has created. I've tried seeding but the trail is on a downhill slope and every hard rain, everything washes away. I can't justify the cost of sod. Plus all I can find is sod by the pallet and that is way too much. So I thought about giving Growtrax a try. Ground prep is straight forward and laying it down is simple. I did use a little top soil to help anchor the ends down. You really need to be careful watering it because it's easy to punch holes in the carpet. Just a gentle mist will get things started and settle things down. Fearing that a heavy rain would wash everything downhill, after two days I spread a thin layer of topsoil over the seed carpet. From there it's a case of watering it twice a day. Five days later I'm seeing a nice growth of hair thick grass pushing up. It reminds me of what Chia Pets look like when they first start sprouting. The only negative I have to offer is cutting the roll isn't the easiest. It can bunch up at times to make scissors a little challenging. Tearing is possible but you won't come close to tearing a straight line. It's not a deal breaker but can be a point of frustration. Only time will tell how well this project will work. Once I get a few more days of growth, I plan on spreading a thin layer of straw to protect things from the dog. No regrets giving this a try. I do think if you have relatively flat ground to seed, this will work fine. If it's an unlevel area, grab a bag or two of topsoil to anchor the carpet down. Give it a few days to sprout and then spread a light layer of the topsoil on top of all the carpet. No need to bury it, just enough to help it settle and stay in place.
