      Performance

I bought this with some hesitation because of the reviews that said how often it tripped the breakers. As I was getting started using this, it occurred to me that this is not a planer that takes off 1/16" or more at a time..... this machine takes off thousandths of an inch -which means that an eight of a turn of the crank is all it is going to do. With that in mind, I think this machine is just what it is designed to do. It will just take a bit of time to get it sanded.....I have to remind myself that Patienceis key.

      Great sander

For what I do, this machine is excellent. I am mostly using it to process figured hardwood veneers while keeping them flat. For those that have mentioned it being slow or easy to trip the breaker, I also agree but I attribute that to occasionally forgetting that it is not a thickness planer and can't chew off too much material at once - I have done this too. Instead of going slow and/or doing quarter handle turns I've found it to be faster and less of a load on the motor to go around 75% speed while turning the handle maybe an eighth rotation, and sending material through two to three times with each turn of the handle. You'll notice you can still hear the sander working on the piece sending it through multiple times without having changed the thickness setting. This has helped tremendously and I haven't tripped the breaker since. Maybe it's just my imagination but it seems to speed up the process as well, and sending pieces through on a faster setting keeps it from burning. Overall I feel it is a great value and it has been a workhorse for my small shop.
