GEARWRENCH 15 pc. Metric Ratcheting Tap and Die Set

Initial impressions, nice looking kit, but sizes are kind of odd and uncommon. There should also either be a drill size chart or should be etched on each tap. When in use, the ratcheting handle was awesome, highly recommend, worked very good, very smooth, and easy to reverse to remove chips during cut. The sleeve that holds the taps and dies is cheap plastic, foam would be more premium, and maybe have the size marked on the sleeve for easier selection and storage. The tools themselves worked great, just some little improvement would go a long way.

The ratchet on this tap and die set is really nice. Very smooth, reversible and very durable. It makes easy work of most jobs. Some areas may not be accessible with the ratchet but you can still use the more portable standard bar for those situations. The case included is also very nice. I will be buying more taps for sure. This is kind of a basic starter kit that works good for many situations but you can add more as needed. If you have other taps and dies, they fit fine. I have a whole collection of loose stuff I’ve been using over the years and they work fine.

Influenster has hounded me since the day this arrived to review it. Obviously, I'm going to wait until I use the product before I review. And normally I would. If I had had more information on this tap and die set I would've skipped it. Why? They're sized very small. In my mechanical world that means it'll be rare I use them. They're M3, M4, M5, M6, and M7. Would any one in the automotive trade ever use these? The M6 maybe. I'm also fairly certain I've never seen an M7 fastener in my life. So pretty useless in my line. I will say I do like the ratcheting t-handle. It'll make the taps and dies it does fit easier to use. I also found out it works on some pass-through sockets I have. So that's a bonus.

I’ve been looking for a ratcheting tap and due set for a while now. This is a great compact set that covers most of the common metric sizes. Love the heft of the handle - which should provide plenty of torque when needed - and the optional bar to use the tap collet in a traditional way for tight spaces when the ratcheting handle might get in the way. Although no instructions are provided with the kit, it’s all pretty intuitive and easy to assemble. Nice that it can use the provided dies or even round ones from other suppliers. This is a really well-thought out set with some added bells and whistles, packed in a sturdy case that should protect the tool for years to come. I’m now on the hunt to expand and get the SAE and larger kits.
