Excellent implement

The quality is great for the price as compared to similar implements when I was shopping. I saw a lot of negative reviews about shear pins “failing” (aka doing their job protecting the shaft and gearbox. But I think those people were trying to start the pto at 540 rpm with downward pressure on the 3 pt control. In my opinion that is negligent abuse of this particular implement. If you hover the auger over the intended hole, idle the throttle, engage the pto at IDLE, and then carefully lower the 3 pt until the rock/ root buster makes a nice pilot hole and then EASE the 3 pt down until you reach your desired depth you won’t have a problem and you probably won’t even have to increase engine rpm from idle, saving you wear and tear (and fuel) on your tractor, as well as your shear pins! This is one implement YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RUN AT 540 pto rpm.

Worked great for an hour

I bought this a few months ago but didn't get around to using it until last weekend. At first it was fantastic, even with clay soil the 12" auger worked like a champ. After a while I noticed a lot of clattering and saw that the two bolts that attach the output guard had both fallen out and the guard was down around the auger. Those bolts were preinstalled, they were not part of the installation so its not like I didn't put them in properly. They also aren't listed in the user's manual so I don't know what to replace them with. My biggest grip is that I can't get anyone to send me replacement bolts or even tell me what size they are to get my own. I've called the company that makes then and also emailed tractor supply, without a response.

Marginal Instructions. Works great. My rocky soil is a problem. My 25hp tractor will run this at an idle no problem.

Rusty

Ordered online. Picked up in west plains missouri. Item was packaged well in a steel welded crate wrapped in plastic. Item had obviously been stores outside as water had penetrated the plastic trapping moisture resulting in a great deal of rust on the lower section of the gear head (the part at rest on the crate). My solution was using my own rust inhibitor and paint. Its a shame new cant be new.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Tough little 3-point post hole auger

I bought this to attach to my old John Deere 650 tractor [18 HP diesel]. It mounted as easily as most other PTO driven 3 point tractor tools. I had to dig 150 post holes for a 1500 foot post and wire fence. The tractor/auger combination dug 2 foot holes in clay soil with no trouble. The only problem was that the angle control rod [the one you push up and down to get the auger pointed straight into the ground]. broke at a point where a hole was drilled. I welded it up and it has worked fine since.
