Q: Can I use for hide tanning

    1 Answer
    • A: Thank you for your interest in our Champion's Choice agricultural salt. Yes our Mix-n-Fine Salt is widely used in tanning hides because it's fine and additive free. We do manufacture an additional SKU of the Mix-n-Fine Salt with YPS (an anti-caking agent), so make sure you buy the plain version for this application.

Q: Does anybody know if it melts snow and ice?

    2 Answers
    • A: Thank you for your interest in our Champion's Choice Ag salt. The Mix-n-Fine salt could be used to melt snow and ice, but it's imperative that you follow these directions for use: Remove excess snow. Spread 1/2 to 1 cup per square yard evenly over ice and packed snow surfaces. Quantity and melting action will depend upon temperature and thickness of the ice and packed snow. Reapply as necessary. When ice and snow soften, remove slush and any excess ice melter from pavement for good concrete maintenance. Notice: All ice melting agents work by reducing the freezing point of water. This can result in more frequent freeze-thaw cycling of the melted snow and ice, which can cause spalling (surface scaling of concrete). As such, use only on properly placed, cured and sealed, air-entrained concrete. To lessen the possibility of freeze-thaw cycling and potential damage, promptly remove slush as it is formed. Do not use on porous or improperly cured concrete, concrete less than one year old, wood or other porous materials. As with any ice melting agent, particular care should be used when grass and vegetation are adjacent to the deicing surface as excess application may cause damage. Use this product at your own risk.

Q: I noticed that the bag says it is not safe for human consumption. I am wondering if it is treated with something or what is the reason humans can't eat it? I do not want to give anything to my horses that would not be safe for me to eat myself.

    • A: Hi Neighbor- Champion's Choice Mix-n-Fine Salt is safe for animals but not for human consumption due to differences in production standards and intended use. It can be fortified with trace minerals (like cobalt and iodine) to meet the specific nutritional needs of livestock. These minerals, while beneficial for animals, may not be suitable for human consumption in the same concentrations.

    Yes.....it's great on weeds!!

I am SO happy to find this at our local Tractor supply. While I know you can not recommend it for killing weeds...I have used it for that for many years. I tried the salt and vinegar mixed, but it was more expensive and messy. My common sense told me that yes...salt kills plants, so I looked for a bulk product and someone told me, use hay salt. Had never heard of that but was told that is what farmers call this product. I have used it in all my area's (we have 2 acres) that are gravel and it works great. In fact, with each passing year, there are fewer and fewer weeds in the area's I use it, as the plants aren't growing and setting down seeds and also, even though I'm sure the rain washes a lot of it further into the ground, I'm guessing even a slightly salty soil prevents many weeds from even sprouting. One caution...don't use it anywhere you think you will eventually want to plant something. I went to this natural organic product because my son had promised to quit using roundup if would find another way to kill the weeds. We have a LOT of gravel. I also use it against the fence lines to keep the weeds from growing up under the fences. I LOVE this product. I hope you can keep this review, as it's not you telling customers to use it, but another customer. I have told many people about this and everyone who tries it is ecstatic with the results. One more bonus...the grandkids LOVE helping me spread it. We use sieve's or just sprinkle with our hands.

    ROCK HARD!

BOUGHT THIS TODAY TO SALT DEER HIDES. DESCRIPTION SAYS ANTI CAKING. NOT TRUE. THIS SALT IS ROCK HARD AND VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO GET BROKEN UP INTO A USEABLE CONSISTANCY. PRICE ALSO IS $2.00 OR MORE HIGHER THAN EVERYONE ELSE INCLUDING SOME OTHER NEARBY TSC STORES. IF YOU BUY THIS PRODUCT BE READY TO WORK A WHILE TO GET IT BROKEN UP ENOUGH TO USE!
