Axle fit.

Product is true to fit and size. Was worried since I was replacing an axle. When I took measurements and found that what was listed I bought on a wing and prayer. What do you know. No modification of trailer need to fit.

I purchased this replacement axle for my trailer about April 2016. It is now Sept 2017 and the wheel fell off due to the bearing disintegrating. I do have some amount of blame in this failure since I did not pull the bearings off and pack with grease before installing this axle on the trailer. The amount of damage done leads me to believe that there was little if any grease in the bearings during manufacturing on the inner bearings. The outer bearings are still well lubricated but the inner bearing is completely gone. Of course when the bearings went, the axle shaft was damaged so now I need a complete new axle - again. This time I will make sure to pack the bearings BEFORE installing on the trailer and every 6-12 months like a good boy should.

This is an update to my previous 1 star rating.
Carry-on Customer Service listened to my complaint that the standard 2000 lb axle does not fit older trailers and sent one that fits perfectly.
I see that the 2000 lb axle is listed as frequently returned item.
I recommend always contacting Custmer Service to receive the right fit.

Unfortunate dimensions for small Carry On trailer

The spring seat width is 1" too wide for 4ft x 6ft trailer thus allowing only two clamps to be set to hold it and the axle fails to set down over the knobs in the spring mount that hold it against moving left and right during use.
Because the spring cannot be dismounted to provide enough clearance, the axle cannot be mounted without removing the bearing/wheel mounts on one end of the axle so as to insert the assembly and risking maladjustment and loss of grease when remounting. The diameter of the round axle is exactly correct.
