Altosid IGR Extended Release Bolus delivers horn fly control with the same method utilized in the rest of the Altosid IGR product line, relying on the animal to distribute the active ingredient in the manure. After the bolus is orally administered, it settles into the cow's rumen where it will dissolve over time, releasing the active ingredient, (S)-methoprene, consistently for up to 195 days. This ensures that cows receive consistent, season-long horn fly control. The active ingredient is then passed through to the cow's manure where horn flies lay eggs. By disrupting the horn fly life cycle, it effectively prevents the development of pupae into biting adult flies.
- Breaks the horn fly life cycle with the active ingredient (S) - methoprene
- Produces a strong ROI with weight gains up to 15.8% higher vs. untreated cattle
- No impact on beneficial insects and non-target species
- Offers customers more flexibility when it comes to horn fly control
- Provides reductions in horn flies which can cause heifer mastitis and blind quarters
1.5% (S)-Methoprene, Other ingredients: 98.5%
It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. The Altosid IGR XRB, when placed in cattle in the spring will provide a sustained release of S-methoprene IGR sufficient to prevent the emergence of adult horn flies from the manure of treated cattle for up to 61/2 months. Existing adult horn flies will not be affected. Administer the Altosid IGR XRB orally with a balling gun. Estimate body weights carefully and administer in accordance with the following measurements: 0.5 boluses - 136 kg (300 lb) to 299 kg (659 lb) or 1.0 bolus - 300 kg (660 lb) to 636 kg (1,400 lb) Horn flies will not develop in the manure of nursing calves. It is not necessary to treat calves until they are weaned. Do not administer to cattle too small to swallow boluses. Treat the entire herd in the spring for best results. Allow sufficient time for swallowing reflex to occur. Observe animals following dosing to ensure that if boluses are regurgitated, the animal involved is re-treated.
