Item Information

Purina Wind and Rain Fly Control Cattle Minerals is available as a comprehensive line of beef cattle minerals designed to address the mineral deficiencies of available forage, in a palatable, weather-resistant, granular formula. Wind and Rain Storm cattle minerals' large particle size and special formulation keeps the mineral from absorbing water and blowing out of the feeder. The Storm technology provides the ultimate in weather resistance to reduce waste and makes Wind and Rain Storm Formula more economical to feed than conventional loose minerals.

Feeding Directions:
Feed this product free choice to cows, replacement heifers and bulls receiving rations composed largely of grass hay or to cattle grazing range or grass pastures. Recommended feeding period for breeder minerals is 60 days before calving through breeding. Cattle receiving phosphorus deficient diets may over-consume this product when it is first offered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STOP PINK EYE So happy we used this mineral to control the flys and stop treating pink eye

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cows Like it Start using this before the horn flies start emerging in spring. Place near water and the cows will utilize it. Keeps the horn fly maggots from emerging as adults. I don't use a salt block with this to make sure they consume some.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not the same. Have been buying this product at my regular feed store. Got this from Tractor Supply. Bag looked identical but upon comparison of the tag, I realized it was a 7.5 and the feed store had a 12. Need to read the tag. Not exactly the same product just cheaper.

Does the fly control keep flys off the cows or just keep the larva in the manure from breeding???

Asked by: Codycole63
Thanks for choosing Purina. The Altosid used in the mineral and tubs is not an insect repellent. It is an insect growth regulator which works by disrupting the breeding cycle. For the full benefit, it will take 30 days continual use and then throughout the remainder of summer. This is why we suggest to start the program 30 days before the last frost in the spring, and continue 30 days after the first frost in the fall.

What weight is the 4 oz feeding rate formulated to for the altosid? Or can you tell me what the label has for altosid concentration?

Asked by: allways
Thanks for your question. I do not have a volume measure for the 4 oz. feeding. Here is the percentage of Altosid inclusion: ACTIVE INGREDIENT S-Methoprene (CAS #65733-16-6).............................. 0.014 %

is this safe for horses?

Asked by: Pands65237
Thanks for your question. No, do not feed a horse a product unless they are listed on the label's feeding directions. We do not recommend off-label use or cross-species use of any of our products, even the all-natural/non-medicated products. There are different manufacturing measures taken for horse products to further ensure the safety of those products for horses.

do you need an additional supply of salt or is this enough by itself

Asked by: scoutsam1
The Purina Wind and Rain will come as a complete mineral (with salt included) or it may be sold without the increased salt level. If not complete with salt, you will need to have salt supplied free choice. The tag stitched into the bag will tell you which one you have purchased.

I see that animals on a Phosphorus poor diet may over consume this product. If they do over consume for a short time will that cause any danger to the animal?
