Q&As

1 - 10 of 55 Questions

Q: Does it kill duckweed

2 Answers
  • A: Howdy neighbor! Applied Biochemists Blue Bayou Pond Colorant is a cosmetic water dye and will not kill or control duckweed. Because duckweed floats directly on the surface of your pond, it receives full, unfiltered sunlight and completely bypasses the light-blocking effects of the dye.

Q: Can it be used in pools

1 Answer
  • A: Howdy neighbor! Applied Biochemists Blue Bayou Pond Colorant cannot be used in chlorinated swimming pools. Because this product is formulated specifically for natural or manmade lakes and ponds, the harsh chlorine, shock, and filtration systems in a swimming pool will rapidly oxidize and destroy the colorant.

Q: How long does it last in 90 degree weather? Two acre pond spring fed, very little flow.

1 Answer
  • AI-generated, Human-approved
A: This colorant typically lasts between 30 and 60 days. Reviewers have noted that the color can last all summer or even up to six months in ponds with no outlet, though heavy rain or high evaporation in southern climates may affect its longevity.

Q: We put a red solo low cup full of blue Bayou in a 50 x 120‘ pond approximately 4 to 5 feet deep. it went from muddy Brown to like a aqua green in two days is that good normal or do I need more? Thank You

1 Answer
  • AI-generated, Human-approved
A: It is normal for muddy water to initially appear emerald green after application. For a 100' x 100' pond, the recommended dosage is 1 quart (32 oz) for a normal blue tint, or up to 40 oz for a darker appearance. You may need more colorant to achieve your desired blue shade.

NO Help

I purchased this product to help color a lake that was muddy. Since then I have been shutdown by the City of Smyrna for putting a foriegn substance into a lake. There is no info on the safety sheet that has convinced Smyrna GA to allow me to move forward, and the customer service people have not helped in getting any additional info that would prove that this product is safely allowed for use in a lake. I have contacted Lonza and Arch Chemical to try to get further info and have been unsuccessful.

I put this in our 1/2 acre pond and it was a stunning blue within 2 hours. I will say it was a windy day and that helped to disperse it. My pond was cloudy and muddy looking before. I will use again but probably only 1/2 gallon. Before and after pictures attached

Yes, I recommend this product.
