The US Stove Railroad Potbelly Coal Stove is reminiscent of potbelly stoves seen in the train stations of yester year. Made from rugged cast iron, this coal stove brings back the nostalgia from many a childhood. This potbelly coal stove is designed to burn coal only and has an integrated shaker grate system. The cool touch spring handle provides safe operation of the coal stove.

disappointed

this review is somewhat limited due to the fact that the stove was broken open opening. There was no visible damage to the box and it was carefully handled by me.
Sat outside in a vehicle for years waiting for the right time. I can only think that a temperature swing caused brittle fracture, didn't think cast iron was that delicate regardless of it's country of manufacture

I was surprised how quickly I received my stove and it was exactly what I wanted. After sealing it and breaking it in as instructed it has been great. I would recommend it!

NO HEAT Control!

This is NOT airtight. With every single vent closed, this thing can still suck in enough air to have a raging uncontrollable burn! Wood or coal, there is NO real control, you are at the mercy of the fuel and how it wants to behave, sometimes it's calm and keeps perfect temps, sometimes it just takes off and easily hits 1000°!! There are NO seals, and NO way to actually lock the door down!
DO NOT BUY THIS!!
This is my second winter with it, I've tried everything! I'll be replacing it!

Flawed design

The Shaker cannot be moved whatsoever. The only thing you can do is open and close the middle section of the shaker by pulling the handle in and out, which basically makes everything drop into the ashtray including large pieces of coal. So basically there is no way to keep the fire going, but you have to wait for the fire to go out in order to clean out. I should be refunded so I can buy something actually usable.
No, I do not recommend this product.
