Poor sizing

My leg measures 17" from floor to the bend of my knee, and 13" at the widest part of my calf. After reviewing the size chart directly on the manufacturer's website and from the TSC support, I tried medium. Way too long, and I couldn't even get them half zipped they were so tight. Large would have been even longer, so would not have worked.

Suede half chapes

I ordered the Tough-1 unisex suede leather half chaps in size medium to replace a pair that went missing. There wasn't a size chart online, so I had to guess my size. I have an average sized calf; the pair that I lost was a size medium but from another manufacturer so that is what I ordered. When I received these, I would say the suede material was ok and what one would expect for the price. However, the fit of these half chaps was horrible. I couldn't even begin to zip these over a pair of paddock boots and skinny jeans. If I could have zipped these, they would have been way too long on me and would have gone over my knee (I am 5 feet tall, though). Because of these issues, I only gave these 3 stars. These might work for some folks with tall thin legs.

Inexpensive, nice looking half chaps for schooling

Pros: Inexpensive, nice looking pair of half chaps for daily use. Genuine suede and leather will last much better then the pleather stuff and they fit well over my Tough Rider paddock boots like they were made for them. Also, I think the leather pleat will create less wear and tear on my saddle flaps from rubbing. Cons: Measured pretty carefully and bought the adult mediums which has a calf expansion pleat width of 11-14 inches. I have a 13 inch calf. In thick knee high socks and winter breeches, I can just get them zipped. I think the pleats will stretch in time and zipping the chaps will get easier. Also, the contoured fit at the top of the chap creates a curve, making it difficult to get a good start on the zipper tap to pull the zipper down. Again, something that will improve with use and stretching. Not keen on the zipper itself- looks flimsy next to the zippers on my old Dublin half chaps, but I like these Tough-1s enough to give them a try.
