- A: The bait itself is highly toxic to pets and should be stored in an area where they can't access it. Rats and mice don't need to eat very much of the bait, and will stop eating after consuming a toxic dose. As a result, there is a relatively small amount of the active ingredient in a poisoned rat. We always recommend cleaning up and disposing of any dead rodents so that they aren't eaten, providing plenty of food for pets and supervising your pets during the baiting period.8 months agoHelpful?

The active ingredient, Bromethalin, is much more effective than competitors that use vitamin D to try to overload the kidneys of mice and rats. Bromethalin is 95% effective, vs 60% effectiveness of vitamin D overdose. Tractor Supply has the economical 5lb pails as well. It’s a no brainer really.
