Squirrel trap works! (shipping damage).

The trap works. Once squirrels are inside, it is easy to carry to the relocation spot. The trap is strong enough to hold them inside, even if they try to chew or push through the mesh. The one problem was that the basin (for giving them a bath) has a hole in the bottom corner. So when I put a bit of water in it, it leaked. It was damaged in the shipping. I have not yet tried to contact the seller to get a replacement basin. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars.

Catches tree squirrels but damaged

So far we have caught several of the non-native tree squirrels, one at a time. I didn't expect to catch multiple squirrels at once so that's fine. The tub is deep enough to drown them quickly, but there is so little room that it's kind of creepy knowing that the squirrels are trying to get out with only about 1/2 inch water between their noses and the air above. Fortunately they quickly go into torpor. You also have to fill the tub on completely level ground or it will be too shallow on one side, even on a slight incline. I had it shipped to store so it wouldn't be damaged but the box was still really beat up, obviously smashed, torn, and opened on one end. I might as well have had it shipped to home and saved a long drive to the store. When we fill it with water there is a fast leak at the corner where the box was most severely damaged and the water draws down pretty quickly. So far no response from Tractor Supply on my reported damage. If it hadn't been damaged I would give it a higher rating. The store should never give a customer a product in such a badly damaged box. They didn't give me a receipt either. So good rating on the product, bad rating on the store.

Squirrelinator

To date, this is the ONLY trap effective on the California ground squirrels that I have used (and I've tried a ton of different traps). It takes a few days for them to become accustomed to it, but I bait it with a handful of plain peanuts, and they can't resist. I've caught 5 so far in the first week.

please call the Rugged Ranch office or email [email protected] for tips to set you up for success. We do recommend bringing the trap in at night to avoid the nocturnal animals from eating the bait or damaging the trap.

It Works!

It works! Helped reduce over population of squirrels. Scattered a few shelled unsalted peanuts in trapped, away from trap door entrance. I made the mistake of putting peanuts to close to trap door, squirrel would come halfway in, just enough to grab peanut and backout. Added some cracked corn in the middle of trap to attract to come all the way in. Hope this helps.
