Rated 2 out of 5 by from Use A lot For Decent Results I used Scotts Landscapers Seed to over-seed my existing lawn. I was keying on my front yard although I did my complete yard. I used a pull behind dethatcher to help break up the soil and it did a very nice job. I purchased several 40 Lb bags of the seed and some starter fertilizer. My front yard is about 2500 SQ FT. I wanted to put it on very thick in the front because of previous experience with Fescue Seed in the past and then use the recommended amount on the rest of the yard for comparison. Each bag is supposed to cover 10,000 sg ft. for over-seeding. In the front yard I put (2) 40 Lb bags, supposedly enough for 20,000 Sq Ft on my 2500 sq ft area.I planted in early October which is later than I usually plant seed.(I live in SE Kansas). I was hoping for cooler weather and less water usage. The weather was cooler but with the cooler temps the seed took longer to germinate so I ended up using more water keeping the soil wet. In the front yard I also did a light cover of straw after applying fertilizer to keep the seed in place and hold in the moisture. The results in the front were OK and about what I would expect if I had used twice the recommended amount instead of 8 times the recommended amount. The rest of the yard where I did the recommended amount it came in very sparse, but a little bit better where I distributed some of the left-over straw I had. So if I use this seed again I would put (3) 40 lb bags on the 2500 sq ft. I have read where some will say if you put it on too thick it will compete with itself for growth. My answer to that is I would rather it compete with itself than with weeds.Which is obviously not the case since it came in very sparse in areas with recommended amount and got about 3/4 coverage with 8 times the amount. So my advice if you use this seed, use a lot of seed. Also after quite a bit of research I am looking into Perennial Rye Grass for next year for over-seeding. It germinates about twice as fast and grows in something similar to clumps (although nothing like K-31 which is more of a pasture grass) and it also fills in open areas where as Fescue does not. I had always considered Rye Grass as an Annual grass and not Perennial thats does not die out as annual rye grass does.

Is MD considered to be the Northern or Southern region for this product? The TSC site says this covers 10,000 sq. ft. Is this correct? Is this for a new lawn or for overseeding?
