Q&As

Q: Does the pant need a primer?

1 Answer
  • Rust-OleumSupport
A: Great question, Mason! If there is an intact coating on the surface and it is free from rust, a primer is not necessary prior to applying Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm & Implement Paint. We recommend scuff-sanding the surface with 220 grit sandpaper to ensure proper adhesion. For the best adhesion, coverage, and rust prevention, our Red Oxide Metal Primer is an excellent primer if painting a bare or rusty metal surface: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rust-oleum-specialty-farm-implement-red-oxide-metal-primer-1-gal — Rust-Oleum Product Support 15

Q: Can this paint be sprayed

1 Answer
  • Rust-OleumSupport
A: We're happy to help. Yes, Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm & Implement Paint can be applied using a paint sprayer. If you intend to use an air atomized sprayer we recommend thinning the paint up to 15% by volume using mineral spirits. For any airless sprayer, thinning is typically not required. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

A: Happy to clear things up! Rust-Oleum Specialty Farm & Implement Enamel Paint can be applied with a brush, roller, or a paint sprayer. We recommend only thinning with mineral spirits. With air-atomized sprayer, you can thin up to 15% by volume. If using an air-atomized sprayer, we recommend using a 0.055-0.070 fluid tip. For an airless sprayer, we recommend a 0.013-0.017 fluid tip. Thinning is not normally required with an airless sprayer, but if needed it can be thinned up to 5% by volume! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
