Purina Flock Block Premium Poultry Supplement is a treat for laying hens and mixed poultry flocks including game birds. Made from whole grains, it provides nutrients and enrichment no matter the season. In the summer, it encourages natural pecking behavior. When colder weather arrives, it's a useful boredom buster giving birds a place to peck besides each other. Flock Block promotes backyard happiness by keeping birds enriched and entertained. Oyster shell is also included for added calcium to aid in eggshell quality and feed digestion. This block is not intended to be the sole ration, and we recommend pairing it with a Purina complete feed.

- A: The manufacture has a suggested shelf life of 6 months on the Flock Block. Storage is key, should be stored in cool, dry conditions. This can extend the life of the block. A production date code is stamped on the wrapper, usually in the upper right hand corner.3 years agoHelpful?
Q: I would like something for the hens to do when they are stuck in the run and can’t free range due to below zero temperatures. Can I leave it there until it’s gone? I have 20 chickens. Is one enough? How can I make it more interactive for them?

- A: Hi! Per the vendor: This is exactly what the Flock Block is for. You can leave it out there until it is gone. Keep it dry. If it gets wet, it will break down faster. Id recommend putting in a shallow pan or a plastic tote lid to catch the pieces as the birds pull them off. Makes it a little easier for birds to find broken pieces instead of searching through the dirt. One block should last several days if not a week. Really depends on many factors. If the birds lose interest, you can remove it or cover it for a little while and then return it to them. It will gain their interest again. Not sure how else you make it interactive. I wouldn’t recommend hanging it from something, if it falls or breaks apart in pieces that could be bad for the chickens if it lands on somebody.3 years agoHelpful?

Good for larger flocks

My chickens did show an interest in this product however they picked away at it very slowly. I had it out while they free ranged in an urban back yard (under 0.5 acre) so I had to move it under cover whenever it rained. I did not want to keep it in the covered run 24/7 either for fear of the chickens not eating their normal feed. I missed moving it one day and it got rained on, after a couple days it started molding from the bottom up. I also noticed rodents really love this product, too. So much that one kept trying to sneak up practically right in front of me for a snack. This did not work for my small flock of 7 chickens in the city, but could work for other set ups, or larger flocks.

My young chicks love these blocks. I keep them in the hen house in feed pans so there's no waste. They were used to having chick starter constantly so the blocks maintain their feed needs along with regular layer feed.

Chickens love it
a month ago
Chickens love it, but it gets nasty if it gets rained on. I don’t like to keep it out so we don’t attract rodents at night. For that reason, it’s a bit of a pain to deal with.
