Q: Would you recommend this needle for SubQ IV fluid administration for cats? How are they comparable to Terumo thin-walled needles?

  • A: For the administration of subcutaneous (SQ) fluids to feline patients is best accomplished with effectively managing the ease of penetration of the needle through the skin and the flow rate of the fluid into the patient through utilization of either a 20 gauge by 1 inch needle or a 22 gauge by 1 inch needle. Therefore, this standard 20 gauge by 1 inch hypodermic needle would be effective for the SQ administration of fluids. A thin-walled design would have a slightly larger internal diameter compared to a standard hypodermic needle and indications are this improves animal comfort.
